no region protection simply means that the game can be played in any ds even if its not a japanese one. but i also would reccomend just waiting till it comes out here itll be really soon.
If you don't read Japanese, it's probably smart to wait for a English version of Pokemon platinum. Everyone who have rated to game on Play-Asia, have given it 5 stars.
