Pokemon X/Y Online Play Question

Wanted to know how this game works online? Is it global play? Will I be able to dual and play, chat with my brother through wifi, etc? What else can I do online? Can I challenge other players and get unique badges and such? Thanks in advance.

You can battle a friend on your list, you can also battle random people online, trade with friends or random people around the world, make trading offers in GTS, send O-powers (buffs) to your friends, and voice chat with your friends. All can be done at any time thanks to the PSS. You no longer have to travel to the nearest pokemon center to do these features.

You do not get badges. You do get medals after a certain amount of battles (100, 200, 400).

From time to time there will be live battle competitions in which anyone can attend.
