Dead Space:Extraction had a ton of hype when it was announced, but extremely low sales indicates the game is bombing. Did the on rails aspect of the game affect your decision to purchase it?

For me, absolutely. This would have been a day one purchase for me had it been a TPS or FPS. I lost most interest in the game when it was revealed that it would be on rails. I lost all interest in it when I found out the game was filled with short sections of game play followed by extremely long cut scenes. To me, rail shooters are great party games if they are full of action. Without the action, it becomes boring and friends/guests lose interest.

Edit: Ignore the smart ass comments after the pole answers. The questions are basically just Yes (you were going to purchase it until you found out it was on rails), No (had no negative effect -- you're interested in buying/have already boughtit anyway), and I would not have bought it either way. I really just want to get a totally unscientific view on how much EA's decision to put the game on rails affected sales.

Not for me, i was excited when i first saw the game and continued to be excited until i finished it. It was REALLY GOOD. The best on rails game EVER and probably the best survival horror game on the system besides RE4.

IDk, the cut scenes arent that long and its a long game for an on rail shooter. I played through it with a friend and it was great. I suggest you go buy it soon.

No, it was the fact I do not own a Wii yet. I do plan on pick Extraction as one of my first Wii titles though. I love the first Dead Space for it's story (even though it was cliched as heck). I want to play Extractions for it's story hoping it is half as good.

What? Where's the option for "No, it didn't and I bought it anyway"?

All your poll is doing is telling people that they didn't buy the game regardless of the rails, or that it only belongs on rails. Which totally fails in terms of what the point of your poll is. It should have been called "what reason did you not purchase Dead Space if you didn't?" So no vote from me. I'm alienated from the poll unfortunately :(

So...I would like to say that I preordered, picked up day one, paid $50 for it and love te complete hell out of it. LOVE IT. I would have preferred a first or third person action game again, but my decision was not affected by the on rails decision. And I'm more than happy to report that. WOnderful game. Please support it :)

I wasn't that interested in DSE to begin with, because EA's stances on DRM had me not wanting to even try out the demo for Dead Space to begin with . But now that I have had a chance to play it, I must say that I am quite intrigued by the game, and might even pick up dead space when it gets inexpensive enough, and/or whenever EA decides to stop putting such restrictive DRM (especially regarding the PC versions of their games).

The point wasn't if you bought it or not. It's if the on rails aspect affected your decision. Obviously, it did not affect your decision so you should select option 2. I see a trend forming.

When I first heard about it, it sounded pretty cool. Like the evolution of on rails shooters. They talked about both players needing to solve puzzles together and things like that. Then I actually saw a video showcasing some game play and I saw one of these "puzzles" for myself. The "take turns drawing a line" game play made me stop caring all together.

Considering that my answer is "no" but that I also don't think that Dead Space "belongs" on rails, I don't know how to respond. :P

It's great, for what it is. If you don't want it, then don't get it. I enjoyed it, though.

I just edited the post. It seems I am unable to edit the pole questions though (do you have the power todo that?).

So far, it looks like 10 people were going to purchase it but changed their minds, 3 people didn't care about the game beingon rails and purchased it (or are interested in purchasing it), and 3 people wouldn't have bought it either way. I think one guy put the wrong answer, hence the -1 to option 3. I know that the percentages may not translate in to the real world, butthe numbers here showthe game could havesold 333% better if it were not on rails.

Totally. I really don't like on-rails. On a design perspective, taking the control away from the gamer is not a good design.

Yah, it definitely did. I was really lookin' forward to this game being released until I heard that it was going to be another on-rails shooter. After that, I didn't really care much for the game.

I mean seriously, couldn't the devs just make this a TPS like the other game in the series? I don't get why they decided to cop out and make this an on-rails shooter; they definitely have the talent to make a good TPS on Wii. I just don't get why they didn't actually do that.

hmm.... i still answered 'yes' but.. i still bought it... it's a good game... but i think i would be happier if it wasn't on-rails... *there should be an option: "yes.. but still bought it since i like dead space and i want to know the story" or something like that...

I'd probably get the game if it was a prequel that was played similar to the first game. I don't find on rail-shooters particularly fun to play. It definitely looks like it blows every rail-shooter on the Wii out of the water, but I just don't feel like getting another one after getting bored with HotD:O and RE:UC very quickly.

The fact that its on rails didn't stop me. I'm totally not interested in the Dead Space universe. Hearing about the length of the game also stopped me from buying it. The only on rails shooter I plan on buying for the rest of the year is Darkside Chronicles.

No, because I'm looking to Sin & Punishment 2 which it's on-rails. It's just I'm not interested at all on this game.

Same here I do love Rail Shooters but not really On Rail shooters since their are some differences I like Rail shooters were you can move the character around like in Sin & Punishment, Star Fox, and Panzer Dragoon.

The Wii needs more rail shooters. Seriously, Panzer Dragoon on Wii would kick all kids of ass.

For me, on-rails didn't help it but it didn't hurt it either IMO. I'll buy it when it drops to $20-30 and I finish the X360 edition.

For me, absolutely. This would have been a day one purchase for me had it been a TPS or FPS. I lost most interest in the game when it was revealed that it would be on rails. I would never buy an on rails game. I don't think they're worth $50. If it was what the original was (and quality), it would've been a first day purchase.

I had stated he forgot a voting option: I didn't effect my decision until everyone else told me how uncool rail shooters are, now I think it's ridiculous, I also wen on to state, that the view below is not valid:

Now I'll add that I'm really looking forward to this weekend so I can finish the game. DSE is fantastic. it sucks you right in. all these people whining about a game they have not played is the thing that bothers me. you don't like it ignore it, why waste the energy? this is a great game and I'm glad to be playing in now.

kinda. i like on rails shooters....great fun and perfectly suited to the wii also. i have nothing against the genre itself. but i just cant bring myself to pay 40-45 euro for one.....its too much. its a rails shooter...its going to be short and i know i wont replay it alot (unlockables dont interest me). the most im wiling to pay for a rails shooter is about 25 euro.

When I heard it was going to be on rails I figured all the horror and tension would be gone and in its place would be a standard shooter that under utilizes the Wii. Then when the reviews hit, this was confirmed, which made it a no buy.

Looked forward to it until I heard it was on rails. Same with Capcom's "Mystery Wii game" announcement which turned out to be Darkside Chronicles. I'm sure both will be good games but I'll only pick them up when they're really cheap or I find a used copy.
