I've had a Wii for about 2 years now and was really excited when I first got it, I loved Wii Sports, Mario Kart, Link's Crossbow Training etc. Then came NSMB which was pretty great too...

But, it's been a fairly large amount of time since I've played my Wii... and I don't think I'm the only one. I've seen a lot of people comment on how their Wii sits there gathering dust.

Here are my problems with the Wii, and why it is difficult to play:

- Batteries. You have to either buy a rechargeable set for the Wii or use normal AAs. I tried both. The expensive charging set I got turned out to be faulty, and I just can't afford to keep buying batteries.

- Motion controls. I reallly just want to sit down and relax while I play Wii... not jump arond the lounge room and sweep my arm everywhere.

- Games. I grew up with SNES and N64 and to me there just aren't that many great games on the Wii... At present I have Link's Crossbow Training, Mario Kart, Wii Sports, Sports Resort, Wii Fit Plus, and NSMB. I don't play them at all lately. They aren't that great or that replayable. With Mario Kart for example, as I was playing through the mode where you had to unlock karts/characters, that was really fun. After I beat it there wasn't much incentive to play on... I mean the online play isn't that rivetting, and all you do is compete for points... which don't allow you to do anything more, they're just a scoring system.

Those are what I can think of now... Does anyone agree with me?

Hmmm, I would not say I agree with you really, but I have some similar issues :P. For me its more of these thoughts that make me concerned about the Wii and Nintendo.

1) Will they keep supporting the "hardcore" gamer with the next console? I like the support they showed off at E3 and hope it stays that way, but I wonder if they are just trying to grab the rest of the market (non casual players) with these games then leave those people high and dry after that.

2) Graphics are not everything, but I am concerned that the Wii2 (or whatever) is going to lack graphical power. The Wii is fine, but I would still prefer better graphics on it. that being said, I wonder if next gen will show even more age in graphics, or if they will at least match the PS3 and 360.

As for the games you own, why not metroid prime trilogy, galaxy1 and 2, Monster Hunter Tri, and more?

I use a set of rechargable AA Duracell batteries and they work perfectly fine. They seem to hold their charge well and when I do need to charge, just plug em in overnight. No need to constantly buy batteries, just get a good charger and rechargables that work for everything rather than a Wii specific charger.

Now for Motion Control, let me just point out that aside from Wii Sports (Resort), I don't recall playing any of my Wii games by waving my arms around or standing up and jumping around. Heck, I can play Wii Sports Resort sitting down just fine. I'm usually in a perfectly relaxed state for all my Wii games and the only motions I need to do are just twisting, tilting or flicking the Wiimote or nunchuck. I have no idea what games you're playing or how you're playing them but seriously, unless you're playing sports games or dance games, waving your arms around should not be a problem, neither is having to stand up to play.

Lastly, i'll just say that i'm perfectly satisfied with the games available now and even more excited for what's coming.

The wii is a novelty not a hardcore console.

Hardcore gamer is an oxymoron that needs to be put to rest. Honestly, a good game is a good game and the Wii has plenty of them.

Do not use those Wii-specific rechargeable kits. Buy ordinary rechargeable AA batteries and a charger. Yeah, you have to remove them from the remote to recharge them. Takes me less than 30 seconds to swap out a set of batteries. Oh, and avoid the mistake unhappy reviewers on Amazon have made: no matter what brand you buy, don't leave the batteries in the charger after they've finished charging. The charger will drain the batteries, especially if it is unplugged.

Sancroff
I did originally use "normal" AA rechargeable batts. But thanks for the tip, I will take out the batts when I'm not using them.

I agree about the games... they need better ones! Not just sports type motion games etc. However, the games you mentioned at the end of your post, don't interest me. I bought galaxy 1 and tried it out... not a fan. I also think the graphics need to be bumped up! It's not everything but yes it makes the experience far more enjoyable.

There are many, many worthwhile Wii games in a variety of different genres with varying degrees of motion control (though besides the fitness games almost all of them can be played from the comfort of your couch). Just do some research and try some out :)

I'm pretty sure my 360 also uses AA batteries. The PS3 is the only one that doesn't and its annoying when the controller dies as you can't just place new batteries in and go. Also yeah rechargeable AA batteries work great. I don't agree with any of your points and they don't really seem to be based in reality.

Well, here's my collection so far and I've owned the Nintendo Wii for about 2 weeks. I guess it's different for you seeing as you have owned it for 2 long years. Things definitely felt a lot slower for you. But rest assured, this year is going to be great. Metroid: Other M, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Epic Mickey, Goldeneye 007. One of those has to interest you. The battery situation does suck but I believe Nyko or some third party company has the rechargeable set. As far as the durability on those things, I dont know.

You sweep your arms around when you play your Wii? At this point in the system's lifecycle this has to be a joke, right?

You have Wii Sports, Resorts and Fit. Those games definitely require motion but are far from traditional gaming. You have Mario Kart Wii and New Super Mario Bros. Wii neither of which require you to "sweep your arms around" when you play. I don't know or care what types of games you grew up on as a kid, but if you're basing your problems with a system that you have owned for two years and have only purchased games that REQUIRE motion only to complain about the motion there's something wrong.

Play some Twilight Princess. It's fantastic. Play some Galaxy. It's fantastic. Play some Super Mario Galaxy 2. It's better than the first. Play some Okami. It's fantastic. Play some No More Heroes. It's fantastic. Play some Super Smash Bros Brawl. It's the best Smash game yet. Play some Punch-Out!! You can play it with regular controls, y'know. Play some games on the system that are generally considered awesome by the community at large before saying, "Based on my experience with Link's Crossbow Training I've determined that the Wii just isn't for me." (I know you didn't actually say that)

The only game I own in which I have to flail my arms around with is Wii Sports, which actually improves the enjoyment quite a lot. With every other game I own its either small flicks of the wrist, some controller twisting or simple button mashing. I've never felt like I have had to put much physical effort into playing the Wii.

Everyone always seems to bring this up, but I can honestly only think of 2 games that have you do this (Wii Sports and Mario Tennis).

Hrothgarfunkel

Good lord, you sound like a baby (more likely a troll though).

First, Get a set of rechargable AAs like a lot of people have recomended, they will pay for themselves in a couple of months. And, by the way, if you can't afford batteries, how can you afford games?

Honestly, tell me what games you want to play require you to waive your arms around and jump around your living room?

Lastly, you don't have Sh!t for games! no wonder you don't play your wii. Only having 4 games would make you tired of any system. Play some of the available games before you write an ignorant post like this.

There are a ton of good games on the system, its Nintendo for god's sake! They have been making great games longer than brat-children like yourself have been alive!

Wow, hi, I sound like a child? There seems to be a distinct lack of allowing people their opinions here. I merely stated mine and asked if anyone was in agreement. I did not force my opinion upon anyone or berate anyone for giving theirs. So I expect the same in return. For your information, I have six games in total. And the reason I do not have any more is financial. I have been playing Nintendo for roughly 15 years, thank you.

I bought Twilight Princess and Galaxy, didn't like either... not my cup of tea, returned them. Brawl never interested me, from the N64 days I guess... Back in my SNES days there seemed to be so much more of interest to me.

Batteries are a non-issue for me, as I bought rechargeable Duracell's almost 2 years ago with a 15 minute charger for around $30 Canadian. I'm still using the original rechargeable batteries I got with that charger to this day, for my Wii and my 360.

As for the motion controls issue, I haven't played a Wii game where I have to 'jump around the lounge room and sweep my arms everywhere' since Wii Sports/Wii Sports Resort, even those don't require you to look like how people look in Wii commercials, so it shouldn't really be an issue.

As for games, my suggestion to you is ... buy more games. If I only had the games you had, I wouldn't like the console much either. Ever since I got the Wii in 2006, there has never been a time where I had absolutely nothing good to play for it. There has always been something. Just yesterday, I got Sin and Punishment: Star Successor.

If you are this dissatisfied with the console, I either suggest trying to play more games or selling it to someone else who will get much more use out of it and for future purchases, perhaps do a bit more research into the product you're about to purchase.

not many great games under the wii... ok, get off that rock now.

You have to understand that we see the "I don't want to flail my arms around" complaint ALL THE TIME from trolls, so even if you're genuine, people aren't going to take that seriously. There's only a tiny percentage of Wii games that require sweeping movements, so that complaint just doesn't ring true regardless of intent.

Well I was exaggerating, but the point I was trying to get across is, I dislike having to move arms around for games likes Sports Resort. In my opinion this is pretty irritating. But whatever if you disagree. We can be civil right?

thankfully yes, some of us can. but still, games like wii sports resort is a minority, at least when you look at quality titles only. most games require little to no movement.

I hope you don't take offense to this but..

If you don't like 'waiving your arms around' kind of stuff, why'd you buy a Wii. Granted, a lot of games don't over do the motion controls thing anyway, just a question out of curiosity.

I was excited about the motion aspect of it when I first received it, however the novelty soon wore off. It's just too gimmicky. Even in games like NSMB where all you have to do is shake the Wiimote to do some actions... well that's kind of annoying. I'm not pointing at you at all, but some people in this forum have a really strange defensive stance towards Nintendo. I grew up playing Nintendo and love its franchises like Mario and Zelda. However I can see things objectively, too. I mean, not everything the big N does is wonderful and amazing... don't people see that? It's a company... they make decisions based on profitability and these decisions will not always please everyone. If someone says one negative thing here (and I believe perfectly reasonable things), they are suddenly the subject of abuse and belittling. Strange.

You need to buy a different console if you are not happy with the Wii. There is nothing we can do for you. We can't write new games for you. We can't change reality. The Wii is what it is.

I use a set of rechargable AA Duracell batteries and they work perfectly fine. They seem to hold their charge well and when I do need to charge, just plug em in overnight. No need to constantly buy batteries, just get a good charger and rechargables that work for everything rather than a Wii specific charger.

This is pretty much spot on. And there are ALOT of good looking games coming out.

There aren't many games where you have to flail...I've only had to flail in Wii Sports and some in Wii Resorts like swordfight. As long as you are sitting far enough away and your sensor is lined up right, you shouldn't have to flail. Plus there are games where you don't need a sensor; you hold it sideways. Maybe you're too close to the sensor becasue when I'm too close or not lined up right, I have trouble. And the batteries...buy rechargable. They have rechargable ones made especially for Wii remotes. And I'm happy with the games. I think the games are fun and I like playing them.

I agree. Games that used to be fun for me now just seem really half ass. Most of the games I have are just kind of boring now.

my only issue is while i sit down and play, my sensor has issues picking up my controllers signal. I can see my pointer flashing (onscreen, i.e. Metroid Prime aim). I bought a wireless sensor bar (since my damn cats chewed through the original wire), im only sitting 5 feet away and its all wonky.

Due to how incredibly narrow your gaming preferences seem to be, their is no obvious solution to your problem. The Wii library is robust and diverse, and has mopre than plenty to offer everyone, the problem is this situation is entirely on your end, the system and the company behind it are at no genuine fault. That being said, you should obviously just sell the system and move on. The Wii is simply not for you, and this is quite apparent, and frankly, something you should have been able to figure out on your own.

That is true, as the Wii library is probably the most diverse one of the three, except PS3 may tie.

rechargeable batteries will "always" be a problem with wireless controllers, so that's no reason why it's "bad". second, many games will let you use controls that aren't motion controls, so some games you can sit down, plus motion controls is really your "oppinion", some people like it, some don't;) then games, just wait, Nintendo is still making games and I doubt they'll stop soon, even though their's LOTS of good games. Then about wii2, well Miyamoto wants to make the next console 3-D capable, it takes good graphics to make it 3-D capable so I'm sure it will;)
