Wait... People still get excited for Sonic games? I mean, I realize its a return to the 2D roots of the franchise, but are we sure that the sonic team even knows how to make a good one of those anymore?

Sonic has a lot of fans. Many of these fans have been patiently waiting for a good sonic game, only to get burned time and time again. Considering how under wraps this has been, we can assume it's something big.

I don't see how it would probably be announced for the Wii, but whatever floats your boat Multi-plat for Wii/360/PS3 is more probable really

technically by HD they mean not old 16x16 sprites. More like 512x512 or something. Take muramasa for example

At the very least, the first two points in the middle right square are false.

Eh. The game's got a Wii page on GameSpot. I don't see the harm.

There is no question this is going to be the good classic Sonic we all came to fall in love with. Also they are selling it in a great way if the episodic content is thorough enough.

However it is somewhat "throwing in the towel." They literally do not have the talent to make a good 3d Sonic game, its not that "it is impossible to make a good 3dSonic game." I think this is a good path to go but it is much easier to make a 2d Sonic game. I wish they would hire another developer forany future 3d games.

I pretty much agree with your "throwing in the towel" comment. It is very possible for them to make a good 3D Sonic game. And if they continued down the same path they started with the original Adventure games, I'm certain we've have a legitimately excellent title on our hands by now. Instead though, they've focused on adding more and more gimmicks to every new game, none of which work out in their favor at all. And the one time it looked like they were actually giving it a real go (Sonic '06), the game was clearly released far too early in production, having so many glitches, bugs, and other gameplay issues. The fact that they released it in such a condition was almost like they honestly couldn't even care less.

Had they actually gotten their act together, sat down, looked at what's worked and what hasn't, listened to what the people like, and kept a strict focus on that classic Sonic style as opposed to lame gimmicks to tack on, and then had a serious go at it, I'm absolutely positive that they could have produced a true quality 3D title. The only reason they haven't is because they're lazy, and they truly, honest to god don't give a crap.

I have to disagree with your remark about this being a great way to sell it, though. I've been dying for a return to classic Sonic gaming ever since the Genesis days. Since this is a download only game, though, and my consoles are not online, I have no means of playing this game. Unless once all of the "episodes" are released they end up packaging them all on a disc to sell at retail, then this is without question the absolute biggest disappointment in a long line of them concerning Sonic.

The only people not giving a crap is the fanbase itself. They still bought their bad games and also they keep saying Sonic Team sucks and should go back to 2D. I don't like the 3D Sonics. they're way too different than what the 2D ones represent. Good riddance I say.

The fans who bought the bad games are just as much to blame as well, I agree. After all, why should Sonic Team make an actual effort when they can clearly just dump out any old trash, slap on the hedgehog's face, and rake in the dough?

I was guilty of this myself at first. After enough disappointments, though, it came to the point where I merely rented them, just to see for myself. All except for the Black Knight, which just by reading the previews I could see that they had neglected to correct any of the game-breaking problems from Secret Rings, so I didn't even have to play the game to know it was still garbage.

We'll see where they're headed as this is a new Sonic Team I believe.

I do not think the Sonic Team can make a good 3d Sonic game. They need another team to do it. They cannot even get their graphic's engines to properly run a Sonic game. Sonic games are about speed and 60 FPS is a minimum as far as I am concerned and they cannot even get 30 FPS of performance. Instead of running with pressing forward, let your acceleration be controlled by ashoulder button, that leaves the analog stick free for quick left and right movement and if they put in a proper dodge mechanic, Sonic will actually be able to move down a 3d space without having the player get stuck every 5 seconds on a wall or an enemy. Make the environment big open spaces at times and let the challenge be enemies coming at you and environments changing. Stop zooming the camera so closely on Sonic and create a camera that is smart enough to adapt. The story should not be that involved, keep the character count down and keep them less annoying. We do not need a new badly conceived characters every new Sonic game that always seems to be Sonic's "ultimate rival in speed." Sonic does not need a fully fleshed out battle multiplayer. Make stages from the single player raceable between players thats pretty much all you need, anything else is cutting into more important development time. Well do you just have a Wii? Every system this generation is required online for full potential. Times are changing and franchises are changing. If Sonic as this 2d throwback was a full retail it would be odd. I suggest getting online quick, your missing out. WiFi is easy to set up or a Lan adapter is pretty cheap.
