Nothing about the person playing bothers me. From what I have seen and read, all of the boxers telegraph what they are going to do.. I prefer the straight up brawl of Wii boxing where I'm actually relying on good reflexes, finding openings, and countering than just looking for tells to certain moves...
The art style is amazing, but from what I've seen, the characters you fight are annoyingly obnoxious to the point that I only wanted to play so I could make sure they didnt get up:-/ Striking a pose and giving the opponent a chance to knock the crap out of you? Seriously? I cringed a couple of times o.o
I like that this game will have title mode and all that, Wii Boxing could definitly use a helping of depth. As for the actual fighting, I am baffled at the hype this game is getting.
Well, it's not really a straight boxing game, per se. In its outward appearance, it is, but it's more sort of some sort of weird boxing-puzzle hybrid. It requires good reflexes, but it also requires figuring out your opponent and learning how to counter whatever he does. People expecting a straight boxing game are bound to be disappointed, because that's never been its point - never was even in the NES version. Those hyping this are under no impression that they're getting a standard boxing game.
Eh, guess that is my failing then. I never really took the NES version as a straight boxing experience because I can't take anything using analog sticks seriously as a representation of boxing, and Punch-Out did a good job of making it fun. Guess I was just hoping for a more polished Wii Boxing experience with some depth to it, now that the technology is here to replicate boxing :(
But, if they did that, it would no longer be Punch-Out. The old games were fun because it was based on pattern-memorization, and not based on realism in any way. If you want a realistic boxing experience on the Wii, you'll have to look elsewhere. That fact was known for awhile. Punch-Out has never been a realistic experience. If it was, I probably wouldn't enjoy it.
