Question about the Dragonquest serie

So, my friend's birthday is coming soon and, i was thinking of getting him one of the Dragonquest game for DS but before i do so, seeing i prefer players opinion over website reviews, which one is the best or are they all worth buying?

I'm a dragon quest addict so imo they are all worth buying.. but I must say so far my fav has to be DQ Sentinels of the starry skies.

Simply because it has a great story line and even after you beat the game it doesn't end there, if ya let the credits roll to the end it opens up a whole new story that you are in control of which allows you to collect maps and fight bigger better bosses, etc.. took me about 13 hours to beat the game and so far i have invested close to 600 hours into the post game play. and if your friend ever gets stuck in the game the dq sotss board (on this site) has great people who like to help and great Faqs pages.

They are all good to be honest so I think your friend would enjoy any one of them... The story lines are all different, and the way you play differs slightly (keeps things fresh)depending on the one you buy but they are all worth a go so just get whichever, either way someone will be getting a great present for their birthday. Agreed. Have only played IV and IX and both are excellent but IX has loads of replayability and doesn't ever really end. (I finally stopped at around 300 hours.) Both have great storylines. The only thing I caution against is that if your friend isn't into "grinding" he/she might have a problem with the DQ series.
