I'm getting a 3DS in a day or two, mostly so I can play MH4U. I would like to get the new 3DS XL for the improved 3D but I'm concerned the C-stick won't perform nearly as well as a Circle pad pro on a regular 3DS XL. So my question to MH4U players (and specifically if they are playing on the new Nintendo 3DS or new Nintendo 3DS XL) is this: does the C-stick perform to your satisfaction? I appreciate any input.

@thinkcap: The c-stick is nice, but so far feels like an afterthought add-on. It is NOT as free moving as the analog pad so the motions seem stiff and delayed a moment or two when using it. When playing Majora, I still use the "L" button to center the camera behind me, rather than the stick. Habit or choice? Couldn't tell ya yet.

The worst thing about MH3 on the 3DS was swimming imho. I don't know enough about MH4 yet to know if swimming will come into play in this one. Considering it takes place in a huge desert area, it may not even be an issue, but again, dunno. The little I've played of MH4, the stick didn't get in the way, but it didn't seem like a game-changer either.

In the end, I can see the c-stick being used for simple camera movements, but I can't see it being used to actually control a character quickly. It seems like more of an option than anything else.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the New 3DS, but the stick is not the main reason I got it. I find myself surprised when my thumb actually goes to the nub to control the camera because I actually don't consciously think about using it... When I do, I think to myself: "Hey! That feels weird. I'm doing dual-analog on a 3DS!" ...but then I forget about it again!

At first it felt really odd, it does indeed feel stiff. After a day of playing MH4 (6 hours game time so far) i'm now finding it very natural, and i am using it without even thinking about it. So yes, once you are used to it, it does perform well. Just don't expect to love it straight away.

I'm 6 hours in and still hate it lol. In the heat of battle, it just doesn't get the job done and I find myself using the touch screen to get the camera to move the way I want it to. Just don't know why Nintendo just couldn't make a convention C-stick...

MH4U also has slightly improved textures and performance on the New 3DS, if that's a factor for you. Better wireless could also mean more stable online play, too, but I don't know how significant that would be.

The c-stick takes some getting used to, but it gets the job done. I haven't had any issues with it other than the usual awkwardness of Monster Hunter camera control.

Keep in mind that the regular XL doesn't have a Circle Pad Pro outside of Japan; you'd have to import one.

i just tried the c stick on resident evil revelations.... it was pretty horrible....they need to add sensitivity settings for it in that game...

you need to learn how to use it at first....you have to move it from the sides...not the center.

however when i tried it for metal gear 3 3D it was much better and very nice.... metal gear also has sensitivity settings for everything which is very nice.

not sure how its gonna work in monster hunter...my game hasnt arrived yet.

That's great to hear. I'm definitely downloading Snake Eater once I get a New 3DS.

Playing without the C stick on my launch model 3DS, and having no issues. Once you find a weapon that suits your playstyle, the controls become second nature.

It's pressure based, right? It doesn't move. So I'm guessing it's a little weird at first but turns out to be fine.

I decided to go for the new 3DS XL. Sadly there were no copies of MH4U at the store I went to, so for now I only have Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for the system. I'll be getting MH soon enough. I can't tell how well the C-button (I saw it referred to as button rather than stick on Gonintendo) is going to work yet. It seems to be fairly sensitive just from testing it out on the menu screen. I'll find out when I have MH anyway.

The main reason I decided on the new model is because I didn't know how bulky the 3DS XL was going to feel with the circle pad pro added in the mix.
