Ignoring games that are just plain crap looking on the Wii in general (which admitedly is most of them):

Do the Wii's visuals look at least as clear and sharp as a GC on an SDTV? (I can live with that at a bare minimum as games like Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker still look really nice, as well as sharp and clean, even by todays standards)

I don't mind that the graphics on Wii have not evolved much since last-gen but I would be mighty annoyed if they actually look worse in any way.

I'm just checking because so far every time I have seen a Wii game, runnin on either an SDTV or HDTV, it appears to look more blurry than even the GC did (even the retro games looked worse than they did running on a SNES etc), so I just want to check what the reality of the situation is...

Can anyone actually try running the same GC game through both a GC and Wii (on both HDTV and SDTV if possible, but definately SD at least) and actually check if the same game looks as good as (e.g. sharp and clear), or worse or better, running through the Wii than it looks on GC?

I just wanna be sure that the Wii is running games at least as sharply as a GC on SDTV, and the best way to do this would be to run a GC game through both systems on the same set-up and check...

Didn't you make this topic in System wars? Anyway, to put it simply, all Wii games will look good on a SDTV, I have heard that some Wii games look worse when played on HDTVs (They mentioned Zelda but that is a gamecube game ported on Wii with a 16:9 widescreen mode. But I have not tried it myself since I don't have an HDTV. As for GC games on Wii, some say they look a little better, but other people say they don't see a difference but you can't go wrong, GC games will never look worse when played on Wii.

It's impossible for a game to look worse on the Wii instead of the Gamecube.

I really do hope so, but so far I have checked out my mates GC on his SDTV, and my bros Wii on his HDTV, and the GC was by far and away sharper on every single game.

This may just be the TV's or the set-up, but none of the two of them appear to have set up the machine wrong or anything, andboth areusing component cables etc, so why are the Wii games consistantly looking more blurry and unclear?

I even think the Wii looked more blurry on my SDTV , when I had a quick shot, compared to my mates GC on his TV, and we both have the same TV...

Well i've played Wind Waker through my wii on my SD and its looks pretty much the same and the graphics don't look blurry on my SD basically nothing has really changed forme from playing on a crappy old tv with my GC and playing GC with my SD except the color(obviously) and the wii looks just fine

no.

The Wii appears to look worse on an HDTV because it's not meant to be shown at that resolution. It has an output of 480p max, while most HD sets will be anywhere from 720p to 1080p. It's being stretched to fit the HD screen. It's not the Wii, it's the TV. The Wii looks better on an SDTV with component inputs period. As far as GC quality vs Wii goes, the Wii looks as good or better but never worse than the GC in both Wii titles and GC titles.

Again, it's not the Wii it's the TV.

I don't know about GC and Wii using component cables as I don't have an HD TV but Wii games for now, will look a lot better on SD TV's because of the max resolution. The smaller the you use, the better the games will look. And as far as Wii playing GC games. I find GC games look a little clearer when played on my Wii, butIt's not a big difference at all (I mostly notice that the text looks clearer rather than textures or other stuff like that). When I get an HD TV, I'll see what it looks like properly but for now, I'm happy using an SD TV.

It's all up to the developer actually, I can name a couple Wii titles that fall significantly below GameCube standards...

Anyway, about Wii on standard TV, it looks fine, as it was built around them. Only thing you lose is a little bit of sharpness without running 480p just due to the nature of an interlaced display.
