2. can it be fun for me if i dont watch anime anymore? i loved DBZ, yu yu hakasho, raroni kenshin, and yugioh. i think i might like it, cause i like playing fighting games like super smash and i hear it is sort of like it.

ive seen some reviews for it and it gets pretty good ones. Im not sure if theres alot of japanese but even if there is, it'd be better than hearing their horrible english voices. If you do get it, and dont want to figure it out by trial and error, you can probably find a menu translation somewhere, maybe gamefaqs...

ok..i have the game..one of my favorite games for the ds by far. You dont need to understand japanese at all..i just go on the faqs and read the walk through and then do what it says. Then once u beat story mode u start to memorize certain menus and what is what..so it gets easy after a while.....wifi is amazing but they are pretty tough so it takes time to get good. I didnt even like anime since gettin this but because of it iv been watchin some and really enjoying it...with what u said about likeing anime..i think its a def. get...try play asia if u cant find a store near you

I should've bought this game but instead I bought Naruto: Ninja Council 5. Horrible decision, that game blows.

Jump ultimate stars is a must gave game for Anime fans!

You can battle people over Wi-Fi and voice chat is enabled before and after battle(voice chat cannot be used on random battles)

Although sometimes it lags online but its no problem at all. The game has a few unbalanced support characters but it can still be countered.

Jump ultimate stars is currently the best fighting game on the Nintendo DS.

I played bleach DS 2nd it was good but it is nothing compared to Jump ultimate stars(this message is aimed to those people who compare jump to bleach ds which is really not right)

A large library of characters and huge amount of supports. You could also give your characters passive abilities with Help characters which gives more depth to the game.

The best game experience can only be achieved by playing with friends because triple teaming still happens online.

Check Gamefaqs for guides on unlocking characters which is pretty easy to do.

The menu is easy to memorize and some parts of the menu have english translations.

Also if you know the anime charcaters that the game have then you would easily understand some parts of the game like character boosting. Example when you put Nami(One piece) beside Sanji(One piece) you will get a small HP boost. Pair different characters to see who boosts each other.

Here is a mini-review / overview of the game, from my point of view (take it as a simple user review, if you will) :

Jump! Ultimate Stars is Weekly Shounen Jump's Answer to those avid gamers out there seeking a Super Smash Brothers experience on the Go! With its anime/manga appeal to all Otakus out there, along with its intricate and fully expanded card-deck battling system, J!US is the nail in the hole that filled the DS's lack of fighter games. When you play a game with over 300 characters scattered across more than 40 titles, a good 50 of them capable of being used as battle characters, you're in for a wild ride! The game presents you with tons of unlockables to achieve, tons of decks to build, and particularly, TONS of WiFi play hours to spill!

Pros
-Replay value could be potentially infinite due to the immense flexibility in building decks for WiFi.

-Customizing your very own deck is fun and rewarding.

-WiFi play on J!US is among the best available WiFi experiences on the DS to date.

-A rarity among fighting games for the DS console. A superior fighter genre on its own.

-Great translation guides available for japanese-illiterates.

-Game is foreign-friendly, meaning little text to read, all action to focus on.

-Ever thought of who would win against who in the world of Jump! Assuming you are an anime fan, who wouldn't want to see a full brawl between Monkey D. Luffy, Uzumaki Naruto, Kurosaki Ichigo, Goku and the like?

Cons
-Import-only title, so shipping prices could be high (but worthwhile nonetheless, since there is no other way around it).

-As a result, translation guides are a must-read for the japanese-illiterate gamers out there (not really a con on its own, since everyone who would compete online would end up taking the time reading faqs, forum threads and posts about the different "komas" (cards) in order to properly compete in WiFi tournaments anyway).

Hope this helps! It may be a handheld game, but that doesn't simplify its complexity and depth as a fighting game compared Super Smash Brothers Melee, for example.

get it. its one of the best DS games out there. its import friendly save a few mission objectives which you can easily look up with the gamefaq guide (genroh's one).
