A Hardcore gamer likes to blow things to pieces in bloody explosions, and play games like Gears and Halo but avoid teh "Kiddy" games like Zack and Wiki, BWii, teh Mario.

True hardcore gamers log a lot of hours playing all genres of games and usually follow the news with all the consoles because they own most if not all of them.

What usually seperates hardcore from the rest is playing every genre. Like someone who plays nothing but shooters online 8 hours a day isn't hardcore, he/she is specialized but not a hardcore gamer.

No, no, no. That's the OLD Hardcore, where people just played games they liked. The NEW Hardcore is more clouded and revolves around machoness and blood. Hence Wii supposedly not hardcore. It's sad indeed what the definition has come to.

Well yes, the term has been "watered down" as far as use.

A lot of people trying to feel empowered have tried to coin the term only being able to focus on their huge interest in the one or two game genres that they focus on. Sad really because it's not true.

You and I see it the same way. If you're hardcore then you have to be hardcore with EVERYTHING, not just one genre.

Just to throw out the sports analogy a hardcore gamer should be like a pro bowl player quarterback. Now a hardcore gamer should be an avid player of everything in every way just as you'd want your QB to have arm strength, accuracy, quick release, nimble in the pocket, etc....

If the people who think they're hardcore by only playing shooters and mature titles were quarterbacks they'd be able to throw it far but not be able to hit the broad side of a barn or they'd be able to put the ball anywhere as long as they didn't have to throw it farther then 6 feet.

Pretty much. Sure, you can be a hardcore player of any genre or just any one title or franchise but that's not a hardcore gamer.

A hardcore gamer should be able to go from Halo to Rayman Raving Rabbids to GTA.

I agree about Jaysonguy about what he says. An hardcore gamer plays on eveything and on every systems. Seriously, I don't praise at all the new kind of hardcore gamers. I prefer sticking as a casual gamer like they say or praising the Japanese gamers.

Also, today, the hardcore games must be american or made in the occident. Halo andGTA are the examples that I'm thinking. Even the Japanese developers have no choices but to make forthese gamers. Also, it must be a shooter and it must be online to be called hardcore.I begin to think that Americans (no offences to either of you) are the worst gamers.

Fuuuuureakkkk

Well you don't always do them in a row lol

Games are what this is all about. Especially in this day and age we have such a great selection of games from so many areas that if you're a gamer then you're about the games. Rated E or M, cartoon or realistic, simple arcade stlye to RPG's that take tens of hours to get to the finish.

I feel bad for the people who close themselves off to one kind of game if they can afford others. I understand that not everyone has the money to get whatever game they want and that they need to make choices that they'll be sure they'll like. At the same time there's such a large selection of games and how can you NOT want to play them?

a hardcore gamer plays and enjoys most genres of games and doesn't have an unfounded bias when it comes to which video game system he/she plays (read: not a fanboy/girl). real hardcore gamers should enjoy everything from madden to gears of war to rayman: raving rabbids. that's my definition of "hardcore" gamer

None taken, I think we're the most stubborn when it comes to games.

Maybe you mean it that way too. Americans as a whole just seem to reluctant to embrace any other genres easily and when Americans do take a new genre on it's almost in a mocking tone.

A hordcore gamer is someone who gets into the games, almost to a science. For example, I'm pretty hardcore CS when it comes to the fact that I have map memorization down to what the most common paths a person will take on running from you.
