Well it could be different, i know that in the trailer they were tied when running, but i also know that each character has differnet attributes. A character like Bowser is good at throwing events and bad a running, Mario is an ok at everything, and my guess would be is that sonic will be best at running and bad at throwing.

And I'm gonna said it a million time, Tails and Knuckles are as fast as Sonic, that's stupid in my opinion. So I think Mario being on par with Sonic is ok
Im sayin we dont even know the story all we know is that they will be going against eachother but who knows. Sonics world might have lighter gravity than in mario's world and they might actually be the same speed. We won't know untill we played it. I think the game looks awesome I am just afraid SEGA would ruin the game. I think Nintendo should be making it.
I've read in some hands on reports that it will have alot of the Wii Sports attributes, except with Nintendo and Sega characters. At the very least it sounds interesting.
