reccomendations for a 5 yr. old?

i was just wondering what some good game reccomendations would be for my five year old cousin, his parents want to get him some games. i was kinda thinking NSMB or Nintendogs, but i havent played either. anybody please comment

Yes NSMB, and Nintendogs are good choices, Yoshi's Island 2 is also good, but not as good as Yoshi's Island for GBA.

You might want to see if the 5 year old likes racing games... if they do get Mario Kart... 

Maybe he/she will like kirby Canvas curse, or kirby squeak squad... there are many more but I don't remember them right now
