Red Steel 2 officially announced

June 27th, 2007

At an event in Cannes, Ubisoft has finally confirmed what we've known for a long time now. Red Steel 2 is indeed in the works for the Wii. It seems as though Ubisoft will be completely reworking the sword fighting this time around, which will hopefully result in a much more engaging system. While an online mode was rumored, nothing has been confirmed just yet.

inpactvirteul.com

The original source Inpactvirtuel.com seems confused on the subject. Since I can't read French I'm going off a translation bot here, it seems like the game was unveiled before Ubisoft wanted it to be and now PR is scrambling to try and undo the damage? :?

Information comes to us straight out of Cannes where the IDEF is held. Ubisoft officially announce the development of Red Steel 2.

Far from being a surprise since we speak about it already here, this continuation will take the bestaspects of the firstgame and will add some innovations in order to fix the flaws of the original. Red Steel 2 will be available on Wii in fiscal year 2008, and thecherry on the cake, a online mode will be integrated to the game, which, is at the top of the wishlist for game 1 veterens.

MAJ of Gizmo: Aaaaaah! Panics at Ubi Soft... Telephone call to the drafting: "What? Who confirmed? Even not true! One nothing confirmed forever! "...
Ok. Marion, faithful to his practice, picolé serious during work, donc*...
What is an open secret for everyone since it is known that Ubi Soft will leave Red Steel 2 indeed, still "officially" was thus not announced. What you want... it is a question of policy marketing or I do not know what of other.

It's good to see that they're going to rework the sword fighting, but really, the whole gameplay needs to be reworked.

I like the gameplay, it just needs better level design, some tweaked AI and overall polish.

its going to take a lot for me to buy RS2.

I really want them to revamp the controls, sword combat (i know they can make it better), AI, Up the graphics, and fix the damn cut scenes.

Well basically if they can tune up everything (the music was great in the first up the music selection is what worried me) then Ubisoft will have a great game on their hands. And did anyone read the article above that about the original dowloadable content?

Once it comes out, I'll try the original Red Steel, only if it's at a discount price. Then I will wait for reviews of Red Steel 2, and see if that's worth paying full price for.

i enjoyed red steel, but LOTs of things still bothered me, like, the turn, is the thing that needs to be changed more than anything, and hopefully the cut-scenes and voice acting will be changed, but the music needs to stay the same, cause the music was awesome! tweaking the AI would be good, but if it was only a little better it wouldnt bother me, and hopefully the sword swinging will be made 1:1

What?

exactly he does realize, at som points they werent even speaking english right? anyway while I think Red Steel would make a better 3rd person action title I guess this will have to do. The 1st was fun, it had its flaws, but it was a rushed launch title. They said fiscal 2008 so that probaly means like around April, so that is plenty of time to put alot of work into the game.

Voice acting was fine. Loads of Japanese people if they try to speak English sound like that or even worse. Cutscences were fine they gave off a comic book vibe. Basically it was like one of those late 60s 70s Martial Arts flicks. Ever seen the Flying Guillitine? You would swear Dhalsim from Street Fighter was inspired by one of the characters in this movie.

The game could end up being great even though the first one had some serious issuesl i still think that this game deserves a second chance, with more time around they could polish this sequel a lot.

That's great news to me! All I need is better swordplay (glad they're fixing it), not spinning like a tornado when I'm trying to turn anymore and above all else, ONLINE MULTIPLAYER!

I loved Red Steel even with its flaws but if Red Steel 2 has what I'm asking for, I'm so gonna buy it!

If they would have spentmore timeon red steel a Red Steel 2 wouldn't be necessary... but I look forward to it. Damn ubisoft. Red steel was pretty good, flaws and all, though.

I liked the parts with the guns, but the swordfighting just wasn't that good in my opinion.

The first one was not without it's faults (horrid graphics, pre-scripted Sword movements, occasonal glitchyness in the aiming), but it was very undrrated. i bought it with TP at lanch and i like it.

Im glad to see they will try to improve the sword combat, im not expecting 1:1, but they could be alot better.

Plus, and Ad placed by ubi for Programmer's to work on RS2 awhile back hints that RS2 MAY have online play (it asked for people with "Online Interface" Exp.).

Red Steel one had great level design (The games level is probably up there with some of the better FPS levels), it's control scheme and bugginess is what killed it.

If they fix that color me interested.

Ok, what they said, is that it's unofficial, Ubisoft didn't confirm anything. We all know that Red Steel 2 is in the work, but that article was pure speculation.

Give it the kill bill style violence needed to live up to the name "red" steel, allow the character more physical options such as hacking off limbs or using the environment against the enemies, add FMVs, an improved storylilne and more original controls and it will have definitly reached the heights that were expected of the first one.

lots of us can agree that the first one sucked really badly.... but this sequal really has potential becuase Ubisoft will have more time to polish the game and totally rework the sword fighting mechanics and act like the first one never happened

Yeah the first Red Steel was rushed for launch, thats why it wasn't as good as people had expected. But,I still had a lot of fun playing the game forsome reason... it shows that theres alot of potential for a great game. They just need to reworkthe gameplay and graphix... hopefully they'velearned fromtheir mistakes.

i think they should just rename the game, cause red steel just brings bad memories. Story telling needs work. long gone are the days of telling a story with slides, either you do it CG or in game engine cutscenes. The way they tell the story in red steel slowed down the horrible gameplay.

Ubisoft has advertised in industry websites and magazines for designers to work on Red Steel 2, it's a known fact that this game is coming, a sequel to their other big wii launch title has already been announced. They announced the game in cannes and journalists jumped the PR gun limitation and spilt the beans before Ubis PR was ready.
