Hey guys this is a really old video from e3 last year. An interview with reggie talking about the wii u Reggie kind of confirms Wii U games will look as good as 360/ps3 versions but couldn't say if they would look better.

Check the video out from 4.35 - 4.50

Although this is a really old interview there may be some of you guys that havn't seen it yet. All these rumours about the wii u's power recently maybe true or false but reggie says it himself that the games will look as good.

I don't think there is any worry that Wii U won't be more powerful than the 360/PS3, the worry is about how much more powerful it will be.

Yes of course but it just shows all these rumours about the Wii U not being as powerful as 360/ps3 are just not real and people understand that.

Exactly. Reggie said games will look as good back then. Surely if things was to change it would be for the better. Reggie can't just tell everyone it will be on par then suddenly the wii u won't be as good as the 360/ps3. Like I said I am only pointing this out because of the ridiculous rumours about the wii u not being as powerful.

Nope, there's never been an instance of that happening in the console business ever.

Whenever specs change it's always down to meet costs and budget. This is part of the reason the Wii was such a let down for so many people. When it was being talked about Nintendo was saying they wanted things like 16:9 and at least 720p and over time it became the 4:3 420i out of the box Wii.

So, you think the Wii U won't be as powerful as 360/PS3 then? Because that that would be absolutely ridiculous.

"As good" is what should be the expectation here, not "this much better" and not "this much worse." I'm not sure how everyone is coming to all of these extravagant conclusions, but I found this much to be pretty obvious the moment I was aware of the Wii U's existence. If Nintendo's goal is to get the HD market, chances are that they are going to play by the market's current rules for the most part. I'm not quite sure that the Wii U can afford to be much different from a technical side of things, since it would only create potential conflicts with developers that how grown comfortable developing HD games on other platforms.

I honestly just wish someone could explain to me what all of the fuss is about. I'd like to at least understand it, but I simply don't get it... :P

The big fuss is graphics are something easy to latch on to and make a big thing out of. Hell I'm sure many, particularly the fanboys and the media are hoping its weaker, so that they can make a huge story about it.

What I don't get is how could they make it weaker. All it would take to make it better is a GPU based on the HD 4670 which is an ancient graphics card for PC standards but still two to three times better than the tech in 360 and PS3.

Op you really shouldn't bring old article like this...that said, someone made a post in this section, not long ago - Aliens: Colonial Marines devs/designer or whatever person have already said WiiU version will look better than competitors (360 & PS3) so this old interview is kinda m00t.

Here it is http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/37082/wii-u-is-very-sexy-says-aliens-colonial-marines-chief/

I agree, besides how long were lem/cows saying they didn't want a new gen yet. They kept saying that the graphics were fine, we don't need better graphics. Now that the WiiU is coming and may only be slightly more powerful or on par, its not good enough. To be honest, with the current gen so old, is it even possible to make a console now that's weaker?

Well that's disappointing. Once the next Playstation and Xbox comes out it'll be the same ratio as the Wii has with the PS3/360 now.

good graphics has ruined video games. devs who focus on graphics and neglect the rest of the game truly are awful at making games. also, better graphics has slowed down the process of development as well, meaning shorter games and less good rpgs.

anyhow, who cares about graphics, when art style is way more important. you do have a point about jaggies, but other than that graphics are unimportant, just as long as they don't look dated like a ps1 (blocky and highly pixelated) or early ps2 game.

^There is certainly to great of an emphasis on visual fidelity in games, especially early on in a console life cycle. Things like AI, physics, player interaction all play second fiddle to visuals. There is no advancement in design because developers are just looking at how to get the best graphics out of the box. But that's the state of the industry these days, marketing is more important than the actual quality of the game. And graphics are easy to market.

Not all of their games have a cartoony look, the only one you can just expect that from is Mario.

Why do people even care? It probably will be somewhat more powerful than what we have now, but it will not be a huge jump like NES to SNES, SNES to N64, and N64 to GC. I do not think any of the console makers are going to upgrade power and graphics like they have done in the past. With developers already complaining about the cost of making a game, you can bet that Cliffy B's idea of "face melting" graphics will not come to pass.

True, but that's not the reason why everyone is making such a big deal about this, so it's a moot point at the moment.

As to gamenerd15's point, for the most part, it's sensible. The only question mark is whether or not remarks from developers such as Cliffy B will eventually become an influencing factor, seeing as how western developers like Epic have become so vital to the HD gaming model. If they make a stand as an effort to move onto to grander things, chances are that there's going to be a profound response to it on the parts of someone. I really don't expect that 'someone' to be Nintendo, seeing as how western developed games have an almost non-existent impact on Nintendo systems to this point, but this is still the direction Nintendo is trying to head in, so there is some significance to this topic on their part.

No one is going to listen to Epic, because it is simply not economically feasible to pander to their whims. They can make all the grandiose statements about console hardware that they want, since it doesn't cost them a dime to talk. Someone would have to pony up a ton of money, with a massive risk to do what Epic says. None of the console makers are in a position, where such a risk is viable.

Given Nintendo's current market position, they could certainly make some big risks with there next console. They can afford to make powerhouse hardware, I neither expect or want them to, but they could. And I suspect MS could as well.

If the Zelda demo is the best thing the Wii U can do, or even if it only half of what the hardware can handle, then the graphics leap will not be big at all.

If the Wii was an example of anything, it would be that they plan on making a console slightly more powerful than the current high powered console out now, which would probably be PS3. As long as its powerful enough to receive more multiplatform games like a mass effect or elder scroll type game that PS4 or Nextbox gets, or games the don't go to PC but is available on the consoles like Dark Souls, I'm happy. I know I'll be getting Wii-U for Nintendo's first and second party games alone, but being able to have the option to pick up a great multiplatform third party game would also be great....

It doesn't need to be a "powerhouse", it needs to be an efficient design. You don't need an octa core CPU, the latest graphics tech and tons of megabytes of RAM to make an impressive console.

I think looking at this gen and how well Nintendo did and looking at previous gens. Nintendo always had the weakest hardware, but always ended up on top of the game. I think they have it down and they know what they're doing. Who cares about specs and tech munbo jumbo let's see some games already!

No, I am saying that the Wii U will not be that much of a graphics leap from 360 and PS3. Of course the Wii U will be a big leap from Wii. The Wii has ten year old technology in it. The Wii's hardware was dated when it came out.. The Wii U is not going to blow anything out of the water. The next PlayStation and Xbox also will not blow anything out of the water either. The days where hardware is king are over.

I doubt the graphics are going to get insane. Things will get better than they are now, but we are never going to reach the beyond the uncanny valley. We will be ridiculously old or dead by the time a chance to go beyond the uncanny valley became a reality. Pushing hardware all the time is not a smart move. It killed Sega's hardware business, and now it is starting to takes its toll on Sony.
