They're both completely different games with Resident Evil 4 being a action packed survival horror and House of the Dead being one of those shooters you'd find at arcades. That said, if you only were to choose one and you haven't played Resident Evil 4, I'd recommend picking it up for the Wii over House of the Dead. It is a very nice game with endless replay value even if it has no multiplayer, with high incentives for such replay. If you're looking for a multiplayer game though, I'd recommend House of the Dead.

yeah, resident eveil 4 has alot of replay value. i bet i've squeezed close to 80 hours out of that game and i've only had it since summer.
RESIDENT EVIL 4 without a doubt! It's one of the best games on the wii imo and you will get many hours of play out of it. Which house of the dead are you thinking about? 2/3 or overkill? I haven't played overkill but I have 2/3 and RE4 is hands down the better game.
If you haven't played through Resident Evil 4, go with that. It's really one of the best games ever made. Plus it doesn't hurt that the Wii version is the best, with the Gamecube version's visuals and presentation, the PS2 version's extras, and the Wii's excellent new control, and widescreen support. House of the Dead may be good, but it can wait.
I'd say Resident Evil 4 if you haven't played it before. It's much more immersive in just about every single way, and it'd provide you a much better experience in the end. Not to mention, it's less than half as much as House of the Dead. :) It'd be a great purchase for you.
