Your Wii's GPU is overheated. Same thing happened to me last year. It's not really because your system is on standby; it's because of faulty tech, and having your Wii in standby mode only speeds up the process. Don't be afraid to leave it on stanby when you have it repaired; it would have broken down eventually.

Now, on the subject of getting it repaired; just go to Nintendo.com and navigate to the page where it describes faulty hardware. It's been a long time since I've done it, so I forget where the info is exactly located. What will happen is basically, Nintendo will ask you what the problem is, they'll send you a form, you fill it out, they'll tell you to pack up your Wii and mail it to them with the form. A few weeks later, you'll have your Wii back with the green pixels gone.

Unless they have to give you a brand new console, all your Miis and VC games will be saved (though your Miis will be non-editable afterwards, and you may have to re-download your VC games - completely free, of course). Also, it may not take 3 or 4 weeks. I heard some people getting there's back like, 6 days later. It took about 3 weeks to get back mine, so your time may vary.

Yeah, pretty much. Unless you got your Wii at launch, you should still be able to get it fixed free. Even if you have to pay, I only thinks it's like, 20 bucks, so it's not much at all! Don't quote me on that, though; the warrently was still good on mine when it was acting up, so I got it fixed free.

Oh, and I thought someone already mentioned this before, but you might as well get it fixed now; It may only be really showable in RE4, but it's a system problem, not a game. Try putting in Wii Sports; when my Wii's GPU was FUBAR'd I saw green pixels in that and a couple other games. It'll only get worse as time goes on, so pack it up and send it in as soon as possible. Don't want to procrastenate, have the warrenty voided, and forced to shell out another $250 for a new Wii, if and when you can even find one!

Listen, if you don't want to get it fixed, that's fine. It's your console and your time, after all. But when you see a problem, and can get it fixed completely free, it just seems weird not to. You said you live in Canada and it would take $30 to send a parcel. Well wouldn't you want to pay $30 now and not $250 later. Unless you don't like the Wii that much, in which case I'd say let die if you want.
