I'm being really indecisive about this. I only have a couple of DS games at the moment, but having to return my DSi XL and getting my money back I wasn't sure if I should just grab a 3DS instead. What are your guys thoughts?
It is an incredible handheld. If you like fun games, and lots of them, you should get it. There aren't a lot out now but it's a Nintendo handheld so you can expect plenty of quality games throughout the life of the handheld (and plenty of crappy games but we don't talk about those here). Many call the 3D a 'gimmick' but it truly adds to the experience (if well done).
I would stick with the XL. Unless you're REALLY into the Ocarina remake coming out.

there are plenty of games that have been announced. True... but nothing I'm interested in has a release date yet... except Cave Story I guess... (and Cave Story is a gfx update of a free game...) I guess I am just really recalling the DS' launch and subsequent petering... I sold my DS less than a year after launch, and didn't repurchase until the XL came out. So I'm really thinking that waiting for the next version of the 3DS is not a bad idea...
Do you see any games that are out at the moment that you really want? Do you see a handful of games coming out soon that you really want? Depends on what you think of the upcoming library. If you can live without the current upcoming library, then you can save some money now and get a better deal on the system sometime later down the road. If there's something in there that you consider a must-have then by all means go for it, you can even play DS games on it.

Seriously, why do people care about the screen size? It's not like it's a Nokia phone from the 90's. I say get it. You can play the DS games you have, which look completely fine, and can get future 3DS titles without worrying about needing to buy a 3DS.

I don't care about the 3DS' 3D, but graphical updates are inarguable.
