The fact that the new Resident Evil is an On Rails shooter leaves open the possibility for absolutely stunning graphics.  Alot of the Wii's graphical resources will be freed up to Pre-Render the background.  I'm speaking along the lines of what REmake did on the gamecube.  I am not that familiar with the intricacies of bump mapping and cube mapping, but this seems to me like the perfect candidate to utilize those techniques.  In my opinion we can expect a game that is on par graphically with RE:5 on 360 and PS3.  Please let me know why I'm wrong if you disagree because as I said i'm not expert on this.

I'm sorry, but there is no way it would be on-par with RE5 graphically.  That's just being naive.

Thats not being Naive it's just bein slightly optimistic.  Check out the screens for Archaic Sealed Heat on the Nintendo DS.  If that machine can pull off those pre-rendered backrounds, why can't the Wii pull off a polished background?  If the machine doesn't have to calculate and render an interactive 3D environment, the system resources will be freed up to render cut scene like backgrounds.  Like I said tell me why It couldn't do it, don't just call me naive.  I'm no saying the game will play like RE:5 or have AI or Physic like RE:5, just that it could possibly have a similar polished look.

ever think of those screens being a cutscene or movie from the game, not real gameplay graphics? Like Foolio1 said, you're just being naive.

first of off who ever said the game was on rails?? NOBODY has confirmed the game will fully be in 1st person they just said there'd be "First person elements" , but you do have a point, if they had it on rail the graphics could look Incredible considering Super Mario Galaxy looks great, has incredible physics , and proceses ALOT more on screen...Plus WERE TALKING ABOUT ZOMBIES HERE!!!! No Great AI...These people who say your naive are the ones who are naive and failto see things technically, although RE5 maybe shooting for the stars we could see something CLOSE or SIMILAR but hellz no not HD.

Also, they already have RE4 engine working. At worse it will be RE4 and RE0, which is stunning in any case.

Nope, sorry mate but today at ign.com it was confirmed it will be a first person shooter. However you are right about it being on rails....NO ONE SAID THIS! They state how u can go off and explore different areas for extra items and so forth. On rail games dont let u go anywhere but with this game u can

Does anyone have any evidence that this is going to be "on rails"?

On Rails - means like House of the Dead, ie. suck.

I thought it was going to be like RE4 with an upgraded graphics engine, set in episodes around all games 1 to 4 and Veronica.

I agree with you. There is no need to be pessimistic. The fact is that the game will look better than RE4 (assuming proper coding) because the Wii is more powerful.

And it *will* be like RE4, in that it will use that engine. If that's the case, the graphics will *not* be pre-rendered, making this thread a bit moot.
