Rock Band CONFIRMED for Wii!

Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello has just released information confirming the existence of a Wii version of Rock Band.
What was mentioned was the game's 'coming launch', though what was failed to be mentioned was the Release Date, Price or Wii Remote Usage.

Although Riccitiello's statements provide the first official confirmation, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos stated last April that Rock Band would eventually appear on "every [major] platform," adding his view that "the [Wii Remote] is something that holds enormous promise."

Rock Band allows up to four people to join a virtual band and play using a guitar, drums or microphone modeled after real-life counterparts. The game released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 20, 2007 for 169.99 USD. The PlayStation 2 version released later, on December 18, for 159.99 USD.

It might be good, depending on the online capabilities.. On 360, the DLC and online play is great, but can they pull it off on the Wii?

Still hasn't been announced. As far as I know, we haven't gotten any new information since you first posted this.

And just to spice this discussion up a bit.... What do you all think of the recent announcement of downloadable content in relation to Rock Band? Do you think Harmonix waited so long to release the Wii version partly because they wanted to wait until Nintendo decided on how to offer DLC? Apparently, all DLC will be handled in each specific game, not through the Wii Shop Channel, so games basically have to be designed with DLC in mind for it to be possible. If my assumption is right, then that means GH3 won't be getting any DLC. But Rock Band probably will. Thoughts?

I think Harmonix 1) waited so long because of the DLC, but also 2) underestimated the Wii.

I'm sure Nintendo told companies that they were planning on adding DLC before the public knew about it. They're sneaky little guys, they are.

They did say months ago that they were excited about the possibilities of the Wii remote, so I don't know if they underestimated the Wii at all.

I Hope they really do come out with DLC. i would love to do that and if they did it woruld be great. but i am just so happy that it is coming out for the Wii!!!!!

they better give us a drumset and not make us use 2 wiiremotes or a nuchuck and remote

i dont even vare if its a ps2 port i tied athe ps3 and ps2 versions and thier both the same except for world tour and charater creation

Hey, it's good someone bumped this thread, because I never saw your response.

Well, yes, perhaps they were "excited about the possibilities of the Wii remote," but that doesn't mean that they expected the Wii to sell. They underestimated the sales of the Wii, as did most publishers, and they just waited it out. I mean, they put the game on the PS2, so they could've easily ported that version if they wanted to, but they waited.

Read the dates next time.

I really hope they dont screw this up.

Just keep online, use the remotes for everything wireless, use the Wiimote for rumble and its speaker.

And if you really wanna be cool make the online more in depth. I just hope they dont take the route countless devs have gone where they use that excuse that "only casuals buy the system therefore we are allowed to make as crappy as possible."

Hopefully if RB uses DLC, then Activision will be prompted to compete and implement DLC for GHIII.
