Without trying to make this a "recommendation thread" kind of topic, I'm creating this thread to get a bit of input about improving my collection of Wii games. Given that unlike a lot of people, I can see myself continuing to use my current collection of consoles for a good while longer, the Wii is still a pretty viable console for me, and I'd like to expand it usage with a few more games. The problem is that since the system itself is no longer supported and me already having most of the games I was looking forward to throughout the system's life, it's tough to keep an open mind about what's out there I may be missing. That's not to say there aren't games out there I would enjoy, but it's a heck of a lot tougher now to convince myself enough to try those certain titles out.

A good example would be with WiiWare. There are quite a few games on the service I've missed for one reason or another and would still like to play. Given that most of them are $10, it shouldn't be that hard to take a look at them, yet, I can't find myself motivated enough to pull the trigger. Then, you have a game like Little King's Story that I didn't enjoy as much in the past, but would like to give a closer look. There's also a series like Sonic, in which I haven't purchased a Wii installment for to this point (minus the Mario&Sonic games), but I feel like my collection would be somewhat incomplete if I didn't get at least one Sonic platformer on the system. Plus, after playing Generations, my interest in the series has been rekindled to a degree.

I'm not really asking for suggestions, but I'm curious to know just exactly what, if anything, other Wii owners are doing about expanding their collection of games. It's a tough situation to be in, especially when you know nothing is coming down the line that is sure to excite you. Are there games that you've previously overlooked/couldn't get that you're looking into now? Are there games you didn't enjoy prior that you're wanting to give a second chance? Do you simply not care enough about any of this and have moved on? :P Regardless, I'd like to see a bit of input.

P.S.: To mods, if this breaks any rules, I apologize in advance and have no qualms about the thread being locked because of my ignorance. :lol:

Glad I'm not the only one who feels similarly :P I still have a backlog of quite a few games and there are a few more I want to pick up, and I've got a big backlog of Virtual Console and WiiWare titles to catch up on too. I picked up Retro City Rampage, Bit.Trip Flux, Lost Winds, Toki Tori, The Legend of Zelda (NES) and Phantasy Star IV pretty recently. Hard to mention games without knowing what you currently have though :) Personally I still need to pick up Pandora's Tower, and given how well the Wii version sold compared to the Wii U version, I'm still hopeful for Dragon Quest X. Assuming your "my collection" page is up to day, you should definitely try out stuff like Xenoblade, DKCR, Red Steel 2, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and Dawn of Discovery.

Hard to mention games without knowing what you currently have though :) TxTech1923

My "my collection" is indeed up-to-date. Outside of a handful of titles, most of them being NES games I technically own but currently don't have (a cousin of mine has had my NES for years, and I'm still determined to get it back one day), my entire collection is pretty much what you see there.

You did mention a few interesting titles, though. I have Bit. Trip Complete, so that's a series I don't need to look into on WiiWare, but I've yet to play it. Lostwinds is one of those WiiWare games that I had in mind when writing this thread, so it's cool you brought it up. As for Phantasy Star, hmm... not a bad idea...

The retail games are trickier. Knowing that you have advocated for the games you mentioned before, your list doesn't surprise me. Dawn of Discovery may be under-the-radar enough for me to actually take a look at it, but it'll be a challenge to convince myself that the other four would be worthwhile purchases at this point, given how much I've seen of them. That's the problem. Even if a game may be "good" my decision to buy games typically comes down to games that jump out at me as games I'm confident in enjoying. It pretty much makes creating a thread about building a collection and asking for input counter-productive in a sesne, but that's also part of the reason why I'm not really asking for recommendations. Nevertheless, I appreciate the suggestions.

This isn't just about me, though. I thought it would be cool to have a platform of sorts where others could share their thoughts on what games they may be looking at or how they see their Wii collection at this point. And in doing so, maybe the replies could be useful in helpful someone else find a game or games that they may not have thought about. Especially with the Wii, it's good to go outside the box a little bit.

Not Wii Ware but a Japanese import....DoReMi Fantasy. I never see anyone mention it.

Odd yet fun platformer.

I'm currently into the VC... a lot. I also plan on getting Pandora's Tower tomorrow. (though... I said that today). Also, there are a good number of GCN titles I still want to get. Though F-Zero is getting a little ridiculous to find for a reasonable price. And, I haven't purchased nearly all the (physical disk) games that I want for the Wii, so I still have a number of them to look forward to.

I see what you mean :P You still may take a look at Flux though, it's not included in the Bit.Trip collection, and is essentially a "The Lost Levels" to Bit.Trip Beat like Lost Levels was to Mario. More goodness, more difficulty, more variation. I'm really struggling to find many retail titles to round out my collection at this point.. I've been thinking of importing Disaster: Day of Crisis, but I don't think the gameplay looks overly interesting. Some of the RE on-rails games look interesting, but I think DS Extraction has ruined me to other on-rails just because it's so much better than most I've played :P

Glad to see this thread picking up a little steam. :P

@calway55:

Pretty cool. How I would love to be able to import a few games myself one day, but I know that it won't be on the Wii. Since I can't actually play imported games on the system without resorting to... unmentionable means, which I also won't engage in, it's pretty much a no-shot situation. Still, since I'm an occasional fan of the quirky, it is a bummer that I don't have the opportunity to see what's been made in Japan that I've missed out on. For starters, since Namco wasn't smart enough to localize Tales of Graces, I know that there's at least a few games I would like to experience. Plus, I'd like to learn Japanese one of these days... :P

@AtelierFan:

Interesting that you would mention the GameCube, as I think that's a good way to go if you have a Wii that supports the games. Since getting the Wii, I've picked up a handful of extra GCN games myself, and there are still a few more I'd like to bump into at a friendly price. There ARE options for extending the Wii's usage if you're willing to explore the different games it can play. I think creating and reminding one another of that awareness is a cool way to get more out of the system in fairly inexpensive and rewarding ways.

@TxTech1923:

*checks manual* Bit. Trip Complete has Flux. :P While I wouldn't doubt that another game in the series has been released since, it's only fair I bring that up.

Anyways, yeah... the retail thing is tough. Even if there are games you don't have that you'd like to add to the collection, it doesn't mean that the asking price is something you'll be willing to pay. That's part of my challenge when it comes to games like Little King's Story and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, as there's no chance I'm paying the price I've been seeing for those games at sites like Amazon.

I actually had RE Darkside Chronicles for a stretch, as I had something of a Capcom itch about a couple of years ago. All the game managed to do was remind me how much of a letdown it was that Capcom couldn't build a legitimate original RE experience on the Wii. It's disheartening being able to "use" the likes of Leon, Claire, and Krauser, but now really play with them in a more conventional and meaningful sense as far as gameplay goes.

@Madman Thanks, thats what I figured about the RE games unfortunately :( I had no clue about Flux haha, my bad! On topic of the thread.. I have one of those "interest piqued" moments and want to pick up a Need for Speed game on Wii. Graphics aren't really a huge deal to me, I just want a fun game, but it's hard to find reviews that don't baw over graphics compared to the 360. So which NFS game on Wii is best? :P

I'm still collecting and playing Wii games too. Gonna grab Pandora's Tower soon, and I'm always looking for good Wii games to my collection.

Some Wii games I still need to buy:

No More Heroes 1 & 2

Sin & Punishment 2

Broken Sword

Shiren the Wanderer

Klonoa

I've only played Nitro on the Wii, but I think it's pretty good. It would've been a lot better though if there was more tracks, cities, and online play.

Online isn't really a big deal to me, I suck at racing games sans Mario Kart which I'm average at, so I usually avoid online anyhow :P I'll check it out though, thanks!

Actually, I saw Little King's Story on Amazon for $29.99, new... I don't know if that is too much, though. But Fire Emblem, yeah - that game is ridiculous.

It's not "too much," but given my finances and the fact that it's a game that I rented and couldn't really get into, it's a bit more than I'd like to pay for it at the moment. Of course, I also realize that the chances of me finding the game at a dirt-cheap price is pretty slim, but I'm willing to wait and see.

Thanks for looking out, though. :)

For me, I've always had a list of games I wanted, but just have not had enough time to get around to. Which is kind of funny considering that a lot of people downplayed the Wii because it had a huge drought, but during that time I was catching up on games I hadn't got a chance to play yet. So the Wii really served me well this generation.

Games I have yet to play and want:
- Tatsunoku vs Capcom.
- Pandora's Tower (it's actually been out for ages where I'm from).
- The Last Story (same as above, been out for ages).
- Epic Mickey.
- Muramasa.
- No More Heroes (1 and 2).
- de Blob  (1 and 2).
- Punchout
- Sin and Punishment: Star Successor.

I haven't even touched WiiWare (other than Excitebike Remake thingy).

So the Wii still has a lot for me to play through, and one day I'll go back to it and get those games I missed.

For those wanting FE: Radiant Dawn, just go to GameStop and have them ship it from another store to yours and reserve it.. 40ish dollars for a game that gives you about 40-50 hours of gameplay, much better than the 100ish it is on amazon and such lol.

O_O You can DO that? Honestly, when I think of GameStop and the word "reserve," new games always come to mind. :lol: I can't say I'm able to get out to GameStop very much these days, but I'll try to keep your suggestion in mind the next time that I do. In truth, I know what the game is going to offer (I've played previous Fire Emblems multiple times each), but whether it was because it was too much or me not having enough money, Radiant Dawn has always eluded me.

Thanks. :P

No problem, it's super easy to do. Just talk to the employee about wanting a specific game, they can search all their stores and have whatever game shipped to that store, where they will hold it for you, and will normally give you a call that it arrived. If you have a REALLY good GameStop they'll order from more than one store so you can pick the less scratched disc. GameStop isn't the total devil many make them out to be, you can still get Xenoblade and Metroid Prime Trilogy for really cheap from them compared to ebay and amazon by doing this method! ALSO! Do not let them lie to you about not being able to bring a game in from a different state or across the nation, THEY CAN AND WILL, some just don't like going through the inventory hassle. I've used to have classes with a guy who manages a GS, he dispelled the myth :P

I've used to have classes with a guy who manages a GS, he dispelled the myth :PTxTech1923

Well, I was given a pre-played copy of Sonic Rush at a "New" price once, but that's since been water under the bridge. :P I don't have anything against GameStop personally. It just never occurred to me to consider doing such a thing to see if I could get my hands on a game, and again, I don't get the chance to visit the stores in nearby cities often. Lack of transportation does that to a gamer.

But hey, now that I'm aware of this, it would be silly not to give it a shot. Not sure if a phone call would work in the same manner, but maybe I'll try that tomorrow. Useful info is useful.
