I dunno man, a lot of RPGs involve stuff like tons of grinding, lvling up, skills, etc. You might find it hard to find games not like that.

Lol, such a thing doesn`t exist. But if you really want something that get close to it, try "The worlds ends with you, super robot taisen OG also is a bit different from the usual system, because there, timing is essential. Valkyrie Profile is a good choice, however the DS version is kinda bad.

Games that are closer of being repetitive (walking around and jamming A button like you said) are Chrono trigger, Dragon quest and final fantasy, don`t take me wrong, but these are still great games.

Oh, and forum rules, use the recommendation thread next time, ok? ;)

Super Robot Taisen is VERY repititive.

More than Final fantasy where you just mash the A button to see the single slash animation all over? i doubt.

Its the same in SRT. The animations look cool at first but you really get tired after watching them over and over again. And the Final Fantasy games are at least challenging and require the use of different strategies (especially on boss battles). In SRT the bosses are incredibly dull and have WAY too much HP.

If you think about it, every game is repetitive. You do the same things throughout your time playing the game...

Shin Megami Devil Summoner would be the first in the series on DS, so it's not safe to assume that because the PS2 versions were spectacular, the DS version will follow suit (see Valkryie Profile, Final Fantasy 12, Call of Duty 4, etc). If you don't want repetetiive, avoid it altogether with an RPG that has the "auto" command.

I think the the tc realizes that, they just want a game that doesn't feel repetitive.

I'm going to suggest Chrono Trigger. It is a classic game that remains fresh, funny, and provides a wonderful gaming experience. The battles can get a little old once in a while, but when you face a challenging creature it keeps it fun.

As many have said above, they're all repetitive to one extent or another. The lesser of a few eveils, one of the lesser repetitive I can think of is Rune Factory A fantasy Harvest Moon. Especially Rune Factory 2 , where there are many quests which drive the story, things to do, such as running errands finding things, helping people in various ways and so forth. It's true the farming aspect here is a bit repetitive but it seems so much less so (comparatively speaking)in this application than most other games.

I just suggest you pick one with a theme that appeals most to your preveious taste in games like the era or local the rpg takes place in.

I'm SHOCKED more people haven't mentioned Mario&Luigi: Partners in Time. That's a game that plays as much like a platformer as much as it does as an RPG, and you hardly find yourself bored and going through the RPG motions because of it. That part of the game can't be stressed enough, really, to be honest. If you're looking for an RPG with some freshness and new challenges around the corner, you can't find many games better than the Mario&Luigi series.
