Who thinks that an RTS game would work well on the Wii?

I think there is already an awesome one in development. It's called Battalion Wars 2 and it's my most snticipated game this year.

probably would work, if RTS wasn't the single worst genre in the history of gaming (sorry dating simulators, you lose)

seriously tho, i can't stand them personally, but you'll probably see a few in the library sometime. none that we know anything about as of yet, tho.

edit: unless battalion wars 2 is RTS, i never played the first one so i don't know.

I'll respect your opinion, but I don't exactly agree with it.

Anywho... Yeah, BWiii is an RTS. Or more accurately, a RTS/Action hybrid.

Can I ask why you don't like RTS games?  I like them a lot (though every one I've played on a console sucked hardcore) so I'd like to hear the opinion of someone who doesn't like them.  And just so we're on the same page I consider RTS to be games like Command and Conquer, Red Alert, Starcraft, Warcraft III, etc.  What don't you like about them?

Yeah it's got that action feel but is really an RTS at heart. I love that and can't wait for it to come out.

I'm not a huge fan of RTS but I like to play them. I'm hyping StarCraft 2.  Blizzard should resurrect StarCraft Ghost and put it on the Wii.

I've tried all kinds of RTSs, as my friends all like them, but I just can't stand 'em.  From Warcraft 1 to 3, numerous C&Cs, SC, just can't get into it.

It's not that I don't like strategy...I love turn based, grid strategy.  Cept Advance Wars, don't like that much.

So what does Advance Wars have in common with RTSs?  You lose your progress between battles, that irks me, badly.  I know WC3 has heroes and whatnot, but its not the same for me.  Nothin makes me feel dumber than making a big cool army for a battle and starting the next level with a base and two worker units.

An RTS would work better on the Wii than on the other current generation consoles. However, I don't think any console RTS can be very efficient because the genre inherently requires a lot of buttons for hotkeys and production keys to be played at a good pace. StarCraft was out on the Nintendo 64 and it was ok.... It's doable and there are RTS games for consoles released and in development, including the previously mentioned Battalion Wars for the Wii. The problem is that most RTS players use the PC, that's where the audience is. A console RTS isn't going to garner the kind of popularity that Zelda or Final Fantasy have achieved because they aren't well suited to consoles which limits the pool of possible players.

Admittedly that is one annoying fact about most RTS games. There is at least one exception I know of: In Homeworld you keep all the same ships you had in the previous mission.

rts on wii is a possibility because the wii remote can be used as the mouse would in rts on the pc, soi think it would work very well indeed.

I would love a C&C game on the wii considering the success of LOTR:BFME2 and C&C 3 i think it would do well. I like all the stratergy games (Battalion wars,Advance wars,Fire emblem, shinning force) the more the better. The Wiimote would work better than a d-pad for unit selection and movement. A warhammer 40k RTS would be cool and i think the Wii could handle the graphics as well.
