Supposedly not only will GameStop be offering an extra credit promo for 3DS owners to upgrade to the XL when it comes out in the US but GameStop is rumored to be planning to perform system data transfers in store between the traded in 3DS unit and the new 3DS XL unit. You need internet to do this so I'm not sure if gamestops have internet in all of them but if this ends up true this will make upgrading to the XL much easier than normally. Of course if you want to sell your 3DS but keep all your data you need to buy the XL first, transfer data then trade in (or sell online) the 3DS which can be annoying. Thoughts? If this ends up being true would it push you over the edge on getting the XL? Source

Still way too big for me to get. Not to mention GameStop always rips you off with the trade-ins. Even if there is a bonus when buying an XL it will still be much less than what you can sell it for through other means.
My wife would love an XL. I would have to get a hundred dollar trade in on her 3DS before I would do it though. Anything less than that would be a rip off.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'd have to get at least $75 on a trade-in but knowing GameStop it would be more like $5 for a trade-in.

Okay so theyll do the data transfer.....but youre still gonna get ripped off!! Honestly if you have to transfer stuff just save up for the XL, buy it when you have the money, transfer your stuff, sell your 3DS on Craigslist or Ebay. You will probably get double what Cheapstop is gonna give.
You need an internet connection to transfer your 3DS data? really...? Why? Isn't it just performing a transfer of the device's data...? Or is it because of the eShop account and possible other things like FCs, Friends list, etc.

Gamestop gave me $ 100 for the 3DS a week ago when they were doubling the trade-in promo ( $ 50 base trade value for the 3DS plus a $ 25 promo that was doubled on Sunday).
One thing I dont understand about this whole transfer thing in store is the following...
1) The newly purchased XL console will have no battery and isn't it reccomended to charge it up for 3 hours before turning it on, so your not going to sit in the shop for that long.
2) In the UK atleast there isnt just plug sockets everywhere lying around in a shop so there would be no where to charge your new XL console.

Well, I don't think it was that low actually cause that seems really low thinking about it. Either way I know it was a rip off, but I didn't really care at the time. Still don't.
