Very, very unlikely.Staryoshi87Why say that? They might announce it this year, then release 2-3 years from now.

Fine, I'll just say that it's very unlikely then =P Why risk shaking consumer confidence? An announcement such as this may dissuade people from buying the system now, opting to wait for the new one. 2-3 years isn't as far away as it seems... Remember who we're talking about, too. Nintendo isn't one to tip their hand before they have to.

What? Already? I just bought a DS Lite! Boy, if Nintendo does do something like that I'm gonna be angry at them. It would be nice to make some announcement about the DS though, maybe the future game cards are going to have larger space in them!Platyphyllumthat would be good, bc developers are already maxing them out

Better not, I'm going to purchase a DS Lite soon because of the awesome games it has. DMRaMeXthat is exactly why they wont there not going to cannabilize the sales of the hugely successful ds by diverting gamers attention to a new system
As much as I would love to see a DS successor (which means we say good bye to crappy 3D graphics).
There are a couple of things I would like to point out.....
1. There is no more E3, it is DEAD.
2. Sony is profitable with the PSP, which means a DS sucessor with gamecube like graphics is realistic.....at $199.
3. That means we got to wait until costs go down to $150
4. They need another gimmick because we KNOW that the PSP2 will have touchscreen.

Plus, console builders don't announce new systems 2-3 years in advance. They want people to keep buying the current console. Not sit around waiting for the next thing.b11051973

I was reading about this a little while ago, They made it sound like nintendo's plan was to have 3 systems
A main console (Wi) a dual screen handheld (ds) and the successor to the gameboy (i think they call it evolution)
They plan on supporting all 3 with new games, I read this a long time ago and I think they might have changed their minds.
I think this was the article i read.

I love Nintendo and all but I think they crank out new handhelds (or new versions of handhelds) a little too fast. With the DS rolling I hope Nintendo lets it live for a good while yet, but they do have to protect their market lead. If Sony releases a new PSP or Microsoft jumps into the handheld market *shudder* then Nintendo might have to release a new handheld faster than they want to. Still, I hope the DS has another 2-3 years of life left in it.Archon_basic
