the launch date and price.

Link

An investor attending Nintendo?s annual shareholder?s meeting reports that Nintendo will hold a conference in September to reveal Wii U launch information. The console?s price and launch date are expected to be shared during the event.

Additionally, Nintendo is rumored to be discussing titles coming out in 2013. That likely means more details would be provided for games such as Project P-100 and Pikmin 3. It?s unclear if brand new title announcements would be made.

?Nintendo plans to reveal the launch day and price at September, and not just the launch titles, also the titles for 2013 will be revealed at that time?

Nintendo has said on many occasions that the Wii U?s launch information would be announced at a separate event in the future. A September conference would definitely make sense. Although we don?t have a complete confirmation of this rumor, it has a very high chance of beinglegitimate.

Mod: This is a rumour, so I changed the topic title to reflect it.

Well in all fairness, rumor or not, that's probably going to happen as to release date and price.... if it launches this year.

This might happen because the Wii's launch date and price was announced in September of 2006 and the Wii was released on November 19th, 2006 in North America.

Umm isn't the fall when it's coming out? :P They wouldn't want to delay it because the holiday season will be around the corner and they wouldn't want to release third party games like AC3 late when the other systems already have it out.

SEPTEMBER?!? If that's true, Nintendo may be just as well off not saying anything until the day the system actually comes out. :P

Seriously, though, if the Wii U is supposed to come out this year, waiting until you're actually in the final quarter of the year to announce such vital detail doesn't do consumers, retailers, or even game publishers any favors. There has to be time to get a feel for where this product is heading, and 2-3 months isn't a lot of time at all.

I simply don't understand Nintendo's approach to this, as all of this silence suggests one of two things to me. Either Nintendo's being so bold in holding back the launch info to the point they believe that it's going to blow all expectations out of the water, or they have next to NO confidence in the Wii U's market appeal at the moment. Even in Sony's most arrogant days, they weren't THAT bold to hold a system's launch info so tightly so close, so I see this as a really dangerous move on Nintendo's part.

It worked with the Wii. Nintendo announced that launch date and the price in September/October (It was the end of the month of September) of 2006 and they released the Wii in North America on November 19, 2006 and the Wii was really successful and sold out for months.

And it DIDN'T work for the 3DS, which had such details announced around a similar time frame prior to launch and found itself hanging out on retailers' shelves until Nintendo decided to cut the system's price to the point where it was bleeding them money. It goes both ways, and quite frankly, I think the Wii U as a whole follows the 3DS' model much more closely than it does the Wii.

We all knew that the Wii was going to be affordable, based on the fact that it wasn't a super-powered HD console. Not to mention that the system was already starting to build steam and turn heads even before its launch. No one has a clue how affordable the Wii U will be, and Nintendo still has to prove the system's worth before consumers will latch onto it. It's a different circumstance, and given the delicacy of the Wii's extraordinary success, there's definitely no way of ensuring that kind of lightning will strike for the Wii U in the same way.

Not saying it can't work, but what I am saying is that it's a dangerous move that can easily do more harm than good. Nintendo's just been so tight-lipped about the Wii U in general over the past year, that there is plenty of reason to be skeptical.

It sounds reasonable. They will surely reveal all that info this year, and the Fall Conference is their next, and maybe last, big event of the year.
