I have the game and i can tell you its really good. It has the perfect balance of simulation and RPG elements. I've been cutting my school projects quality just so i have time to play this game! :D
I don't think Final Fantasy would be a good RPG to compare it to, I'd say more like Summon Knight of the GBA. But this is a great game. Hands down one of the best the DS is ever going to get.
If you liked Animal Crossing then i'd suggest you get this. Its the best of both worlds. If you want to know more I have made a review. Just go through it for more details. Or maybe you've already read it.
Yeah, like what everyone said. ;)
Basically, if you like Harvest Moon, this is the best one. If you can't stand tedious repetitive activities like farming/raising crops, etc. and have no patience, you may need to reconsider. I'm in the middle somewhere. I'm not too fond oftedious, repetitive activities, but I like RPGs. Also, I'm not into the world of Harvest Moon, but I like fantasy. So it was just enough for me to get this.
I'm probably gonna pick this up along with some other cheap DS game :DSir_Marwin
This game is NOT cheap. It has very high production values. You'll notice it the moment you play it.
It's got beautiful painted backdrops and the animation on the characters are top-notch. Also, the music is good and there's even voice-overs during important events.
The developers didn't half-bake this one, unlike Hoshigami or Freedom Wings where it looked and played half-finished. Rune Factory is a well-made game, I rank it nearclose to Lunar Knightsstatus.
hmmm its true that rune factory is the best hm ds. but i've had enough of monsters.
anyway, how many village people are there? i mean u get to mingle with 48 ppl in hm ds 1.....
I will get this as soon as I have enough money,I was going to buy megaman starforce first, but since gamespot gave it a low rating,(although gamespot gives almost all megaman games a low rating.Do they have something against megaman)I've decided to wait until the price goes down, and GET THIS QUICKLY:D

ASK_Story
By saying repetitive activites you mean like playing the sims?
It's got some Sim-like qualities. You have to farm in order to buy the tools you need to fight in the caves. However, there is a storyline, which you can follow, or not. There are about 11 girls to marry. A lot more people to interact with than HM for the DS.
I reviewed it myself and gave it an 8.5 but having played it a little longer I now give it a 9. Those caves are TOUGH! I can see why they rated it T.

Sweetness! I was addicted to the sims franchise in the past so i wouldn't have any trouble with the repetitive activities of this game.
[QUOTE="inzaneetie013"]uhmmm what kind of weapons are there? are there like flails and battle axes, guns, daos?nikedog
hmmm does the fire sword and poison spear differ in appearance? like could u tell which spear is water or somethin by their appearance?
I waiting for mine to get delivered and I like HM games and all that but I think graphics are a bit of a let down. They shouldnt ever stop making 3d crops. I mean the focus of the game no matter what other crap they add is about FARMING. They made some futuristic Harvest Moon game for the PSP recently and are now porting it over to the ps2.I wonder if the graphics in that one can overcome the RPG element in Rune Factory. I wish they would do some funner things with the game. Add in technology like tractors and sprinkler systems and mp3 players so you can listen to different music while you play. Rune Factory and the one for PSP are good signs that they have goals for the harvest moon series and are not planning on stopping yet. _AbBaNdOn
uhmmm in hm ds 1 u can play soundtracks from the different versions of the hm games. like the ones from back to nature......
Natsume screwed up twice. One, they put voices in the game, and voices were and should never be an element of the harvest moon games. and two, is that they added horribly crappy english voices that suck horribly, forcing me to burn my american copy and import the japanese one. D:
Youve been warned

My imported version got in, so now i can better answer the question at hand. Id also like to rephrase what I said before: the voices dont suck, its just the english ones. It is an interesting HM game, and it follows the traditional everything with a few add ons including the fights and cave system (i think the cave system is new anyways). If there are combos with weapons, I havent been able to figure any out, but then again im not that far in game. I just tend to go fishing all or most of the day. It is a game worth buying, and if you dont want to waste extra money to get the original japanese version, the version that has come out in your area should work well enough. Cheers.
uhmmm last question. can u perform combos
inzaneetie013
i have to admit, this game is quite awesome.
last year i bought a micro only for Harvest Moon (though i already played it on PS1, GBA and PS1 versions where almost the same) but the DS Version kinda disappointed me. The same graphics, same game, more crappy story (never cared about the HM storylines, but this one made me turn off power after the intro!)
This time its something completely new though familiar :D
In HM, after watering your fields and taking care of the cattle all u could do is play with the goblins (?) or buy a present for your girlfriend. all that changed in Rune Factory in a positive way :)
The only thing that sucks a bit is that it takes so damn long to raise ur RP :/
now i see the game really is great. what i dont like about it is that ur baby cant grow old. I hope rune factory 2 will fix that. Anyway when u talk to the ppl do they only say like gud morning? or do they say the their whole line?inzaneetie013
It depends, if youve never talked to them before, or its an event or etc theyll say what its their textbox at times. If you go talk ot them just randomly, say it was a shopkeeper for instance, theyd just say a greeting. Im not sure when Rune Factory 2 is coming out, but judging by the time gap between the japanese and english versions, it wont be very fast. Thank god I know japanese.

Honestly I think if you are a Megaman fan you should get Star Force. I got it and it was only my second Megaman game and its one of my favorite games. Just beat it a few minutes ago actually.
Megaman is amazing. I have almost every single Megaman game. I don't have Star Force yet mor do I have the GB ports of the first 3.
But back to the topic on hand.
Rune Factory is definately up there in my top 10 favorite games. I've had it since the 16th and am completely addicted.
I just love the way they incorporated RPG and harvest moon elements. Although i'd like to see a deeper RPG element. Still this is one of the best games i have played on the DS!
hmmm i have hm ds already and i havent finished it. what do u think? ill buy zelda and another game or buy rune
factory?
I have HM too Inzan.... But this one is definitely more interesting.
I just "befriended" my first monster - and he followed me home! I named him "Oppie the Ogre". He does the watering for me. After I raise his friend level I'll take him into the caves with me and let him attack other monsters.
I LOVE this game.
