Any reason as to why there aren't any Saturn games yet available on Virtual Console? It actually had quite an extensive library of some very good, classic games, so I find it kinda weird that they have yet to be emulated and made available.

1) Not enough space. As of now, even after the 4.0 update, what you store on your SD card still has to be temporarily copied to the Wii's internal memory before you can play the game.
2) Saturn emulation is a nightmare.
Saturn games came on CDs. CD have a 700mb capacity. Wii only has 512mb built in.
I realise most Saturn games themselves won't make up 700mb, but the inevitable FMVs that most Saturn games had will.
UGH, the fmv nightmare of the past. and to think for a minute i used to think it was sooo cool! corpse killer.... *pukes* warhawk (even though it was on the ps1) anyway yeah saturn games are simply too large for emulation on the wii at this point. good games but not enough space. mabey next gen well see it on a console..... well, actually virtual on IS on XBLA but thats about it for now....UGH, the fmv nightmare of the past. and to think for a minute i used to think it was sooo cool! corpse killer.... *pukes* warhawk (even though it was on the ps1) anyway yeah saturn games are simply too large for emulation on the wii at this point. good games but not enough space. mabey next gen well see it on a console..... well, actually virtual on IS on XBLA but thats about it for now....slvrraven9
Yes, but it's not just a space issue. Saturn emulation is too cumbersome, even for relatively strong PCs. Even the Dreamcast is easier to emulate. It has something to do with the Saturn's architecture. Developing games for the Saturn was very difficult too.

well yeah thats true. as great a console it was....thats one of the killing flaws of the system. ....... and as a matter of fact the virtual on game i was talking about was on the DC, not the saturn.....nevermind. wasnt there speculation about some saturn.......well....nope those were DC games too. nevermind. I guess saturn games belong to the ages now.....Space isn't really an issue, as we've seen TG-CD games come to Virtual Console with newer compression technology that lets it fit into the Wii's memory. As for emulation, that's the main point. Sega would probably let it happen if anyone could ever figure out how to emulate the thing... between the dual processors, separating all kinds of RAM for different functions (look it up sometime, it's crazy), and everything else that they did, it's no wonder that you hear so many nightmare stories about Saturn development. Getting it to work on the Wii would be just as difficult, perhaps.MAILER_DAEMON
I think space is an issue, as like I said, FMVs, which became very popular around that time, take up alot of space, wheras TG-CD games didn't have them. Yeah the emulation is one of the issues, but space is definately an equal issue.
If it happens, I feel it can wait for the next gen. In my opinion, I think making a larger library for the consoles already on the virtual console is probably a much better idea... Sorry Saturn fans, the console and its games weren't that good... Albeit a few titles did make me smile...

Ah... You see... With the Dreamcast, you can actually say "The Wii does not have enough power to emulate it".
the saturn's internals could be likened to the PS3's CELL, weird multi-core system that took des ages to figure out, but before they could in the saturn's case......everyone had stopped buying first.

Again, newer compression technology. TG-CD games used a lot of redbook audio (completely uncompressed, CD-quality tunes) that took up as much space as an FMV file in other CD-ROM games. Space wouldn't really be a problem as long as the games were ported correctly.1) Not enough space. Well space is no different form N64 for the most part but emulation could be a hassle.[QUOTE="wooooode"] Well space is no different form N64Rocky32189The maximum size of an N64 game is only 64MB. The max size of a Saturn game however is 700MB.
As was pointed out already, Saturn games had practically no compression of there audio and fmv data... in actuality, I am sure a saturn game does not require much space =)
[QUOTE="Rocky32189"]The Wii isn't powerful enough to emulate the Saturn.so_haiYeah - it can do GameCube, N64, TG-CD etc., but the Saturn is just too powerful... That's why the system is still played so thoroughly and revered by many. Well the Wii doesn't actually emulate the Gamecube it plays it natively. I am pretty sure the N64 is more powerful than the saturn though as even the PS1 was more powerful than it and the N64 was more powerful than the PS1. Space is an issue but that could be addressed with either good compression or just a firmware update that allows games to be directly streamed off the SD card. It's not like that' impossible or something. But like most people have said Saturn games are hard to emulate so Sega would have to really want to do it, and I don't really think there's that much demand for them.

It can be compressed to fit on the wii.
The problem is that it's very very hard to emulate.

Saturn emulation issues have nothing to do with its power, but with its weird architecture. The Saturn was not as powerful as the PS1 or the N64.
And, yeah, as you were told before, the Wii does not emulate the Gamecube. It becomes a Gamecube.

The Saturn is too powerful??? HUH? I must have missed something, but last I checked it wasn't...

Panzer Dragon, Panzer Dragon Zwei, Nights, Fighting Vipers, Virtua Fighter 2, Astal, Sega Rally, Virtual On, Burning Rangers, House of the Dead, Daytona USA, Last Bronx, Clockwork Knight 1 & 2, Dragon FOrce, Shining Force 3, etc...
These games may not fall into the "timeless ****cs" list for most people, but needless to say there are plenty of Saturn titles that I'm sure many Wii owners (myself included) would love to be able to download and play today.
