Saving GC on Wii

In preparation of getting MP3 for my Wii in October (I live in the UK) I thought I would check out MP1 as I never owned a GC. Went in to town and then remembered I would need a memory card. These are £15. A 1GB SD card for the Wii was only £12 and could be used for other stuff. So, can you save GC saves on to SD cards. Also, it then occurred to me that I might be able to save it to my Wii direct. So is it possible to save GC games to the Wii memory, if not, is it possible to save it to SD cards?

No, and in short* no. You'll need a GCN memory card.

*Nintendo did actually make an adapter for the GCN that let it use SD cards in a GCN memory card slot, but this accessory was only ever sold in Japan (and apparently is only supported by certain games).
