I remembered when gamespot was covering the 2009 E3 convention, they praised this game, giving it "Game of the Show Award". Now Gamespot reviews this game and gives it an 8? Now I'm not saying an 8 out of 10 is a bad score, but why an 8?

http://www.gamespot.com/special_feature/e3-2009-editors-choice/game-of-the-show/index.html

Now I don't own Scribblenauts, or even a DS, but to me it just seems that a game that was given a prestegious award like that should be given more than an 8. I mean there were other great nominees for the Game of the Show Award. Assassin's Creed II, Forza Motorsport 3, God of war III, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, heck The Beatles: Rock Band was the first game reviewed out of all the nominees and got a 9 out of 10. Now I'm sorry, but that was award that went to waste.

Well, I didn't really expect it to be that high of a score from Gamespot. I think it looks promising though, I still have no idea what the game is about.

meh, gamespot can have some really weird reviews sometimes so if your planning to buy the game, be sure to check out all the reviews from other sites too. From what ive seen the average is about 8.75.

I've heard that the controls are pretty bad, just not enough to ruin the game.

If you read the review you'll find out why they gave it an 8.

I can usually see and understand why previews are more positive than reviews, as the previewer only gets to sample a tiny part of the game. But come on, seriously, the controls are the biggest complaint with Scribblenauts, and that's something you'd notice right away. I did.

yeah it seems pretty fair, i would give it an 8.5, the D-pad could have been used rather repeated, the controls punish you sometimes and it doesnt help when some objects take up a large amount of space that limits your room to use the stylus and try selecting a moving bee in front of a greenhouse with the stylus.

They gave it an 8 because the reviewer found that the controls were bad enough to ruin the flow of gameplay.

8 is still a great score. It's disappointing that the game wasn't as great as it could have been. I think that if the controls were improved (and there's pleanty of room for improvement), the mission objectives were clear all of the time and it rewarded more varied gameplay (it's so much easier to just get God to kill your enemies or airlift something from Point A to Point B) then the game could have had some serious 10 potential.

Scribblenauts = Game of the show = Because it's unique and different. Revolutionary some might say. Beats the competition because they brought the same thing to the table, just updated with the norms (graphics etc.)

8/10 = Because bad controls can be quite annoying.

Controls are a problem but its not the only problem. Jim over at Destructoid reviewed the game and brought up a good point. The game is a game based on creativity, right? However, things like the par system actually detract away from being creative. Not to mention that too many of the items in game that you can create are useless. How many different species of fish and birds do we need anyhow?

I've also personally had this game freeze up on me twice now. I own over 200 DS games and this is the first and only DS game I've ever had freeze up.

Don't get me wrong...the game is still fun. I just think they should have spent more time in polishing it up. Its lucky its getting 8/10 type scores. Most broken games get alot less.

An 8 is perfect. As soon as I started playing the control issues were noticable. In fact, the first time I put my DS stylus down on the touch screen i was like, WTF? The controls are as aweful as they say. And the Dictionary does feel a little limited sometimes. An 8 is perfect.

A lot of games get that "Best of Show," or "Best of E3" awards. Doesn't make it a automatic AAA title. Lot's of things can creep into the final product, like controls that don't work as thought, lack of content, not meeting expectations, overhyped, etc.

Oh ok. The par system wouldn't be that bad would it? Like, you're supposed to aim for or below par to challenge yourself as the developers intended, but you could just re-do the level and go as crazy as you'd like. As for the second point.. better more things than less I guess.

Sucks to hear that it freezes up though.

Btw, I must add that I haven't played the game yet, it comes out October 2nd here.
