i never owned the original wii so i don't have a sensor bar, since i purchased the standard 300 dollar version to use with my external hdd.

what are my options for a second controller? is the pro controller good? i've heard not all games are compatible? whats the best to use?

I dont understand the sensor bar part, dont they all come with one?? Pro controller doesnt work for Mario or many games right now and ATM you cant use another Gamepad so honestly Wiimotes and Nunchucks would be a better idea.

The Pro Controller at this point is useless. The only game that really uses it is Ninja Gaiden 3. You'll be much better off buying a Sensor Bar, Wii Remote+ and Nunchuck.

I thought they all came with sensor bars. I guess not. But the Pro controller isn't useless. It does work with quite a few 3rd party games. I know for a fact it works for Black Ops 2, and Sonic All Stars Racing as I've used it several times. The control options for the Wii U are gamepad, pro controller, wii remote + nunchuck, and a classic controller/pro. I have them all and many games support all of them but not all do (such as Mario and Nintendo Land). But like others have said if you are just going to get one get a Wii Remote with a nunchuck.

I'm sure it's great for those games, but I don't really see any point to it right now when the Wii Remote is just as good for them and also has a lot more that just use it, maybe if more devs start using it over the Wii Remotes it'll become more desirable.

Wow this is the first time Ive heard of no sensor bar in the Basic. Just a quick look on Target and Gamestop says the Basic does have a sensor bar. Is this a different case in other countries? Im in the US.

i'm in australia, so the content inside the boxes might be different.

i find it annoying how not all controllers support all games, and it seems very confusing,

also do i need the extra extention thing for the nunchuck?

Yeah, I'm from New Zealand, and we don't get the sensor bar bundled with the basic. Same goes for Australia, Japan and a few other places. Not sure about Europe.

I think it's a good thing, because a lot of people already have a Wii. So you may as well keep it seperate and let those who need it buy it separately.

I have a strong feeling this is because developers will eventually faze out support for Wii controllers in Wii U games to simplify things. (Not counting Wii games, backwards compatibility) Anyways in the mean time I still have 2 Wiimote+s, 2 classic controllers, a Wii U Pro controller and of course a Wii U gamepad. Getting a second Wii U Pro controller for Christmas. (Love the Pro controlled BTW. Works great in Blops2 and ZombiU's multiplayer) Will only use the Wii controllers if there are no other options and when playing old Wii games.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 supports the Pro Controller. Not sure if you can use the Wiimote for it too but I definitely would not reccomend that for a game like Tekken.

My white Basic Wii U came with a sensor bar. It has the exact same model number as the wii version. I compared to make sure they were the same as I didn't want to try and run the cable again from the bar to the Wii U. Still using the one that came with the Wii.

you dont need the wiiU pro controller imo...the gamepad has the same buttons and layout..

you should get some wiimotes with motion plus though..

and if you plan on playing the wii virtual console... you should get a wii classic controller...

This looks like a pretty good option of you want to use it in place of a Wii remote or play classic games through the VC. It can also be used in place of the Wii Classic Controller for Wii and Wii U games that support it. The only downside is that it can't be used as a Pro Controller for Wii U.original.jpg

The Pro controller is decent. If you have ever used a Xbox 360 controller then you know what to expect. But not all Wii U games allow the use of the Wii U pro controller. So if you can pick up a Wii mote. But it has to have motion plus. Regular Wii motes will not work.

The Wii U basic set doesn't include a sensor bar? I have the Deluxe set it comes with a sensor bar.
