Hello,

I am looking to replace the tv in our family room, and my kids love playing Okami. Do any of you out there play Okami too on an LCD HDTV?

Could you tell me what brand and screen size you play on? And how Okami looks on it?

Thank you!

Mine is actually a 50" plasma, I know it's not LCD, but it doesn't make much of a difference I think, and I have to say, OKAMI looks delightfully beautiful in motion. The brand, well, it's one of those off brand type, Maxent, but it has not failed me at all after more than a year of use.

I think Plasma is better for games than LCD because Plasma gives you much better dynamic range. Though I don't know about Okami, I do know that it's dificult to see dark scenes in movies or dark areas in games with LCD's.

I play on a 32inch Series 6 Samsung LCD with component cables. Not that big, but it's in my bedroom which is also not that big. Any bigger and it'd hurt my eyes! Anyway, Okami looks fantastic on my set, absolutely gorgeous in motion. In the in-game menu, there is actually a setting to switch between normal TV mode and LCD TV mode - I've played around with that a bit, but to be honest I can't tell the difference between the two settings. I can't speak for what the game would look like on a larger screen, but it looks fantastic on mine. Most of my other games look great too (especially Super Mario Galaxy) - nice bright colours, no lag, no blurring, and the Virtual Console games all look crisp and clean too. I highly recommend the Samsung LCD.

37" Vizio LCD. Looks good and from the comments above it sounds like it should look good on just about any size hdtv.

Okami is a game that looks good on any TV basically. Make sure you get component cables though. I recommend Nintendo's brand.

The game shouldn't really make a difference on a specific television. It all depends on what you're looking for. As far as picture is concerned, Samsung makes the best flat screen out there. The picture is just sooooo bright. But if you're looking for something a little less expensive, I'd reccomend Best Buy's Insignia brand. I have a 32" in my dorm room that I got for 400$. They go through Toshiba to make any TV of theirs over 26" I think. They're only so cheap because they fill in as the middle man, and they can basically sell the TVs for anything and still make a profit, but the picture quality is great. Honestly though, depsite the differences in the store (i.e. Samsungs just making every other TV look like garbage) once you get nearly any HDTV into your family room it's going to look pretty damn good. But I'd say Samsung if you're working without a budget, and Insignia if you're trying not to break the bank. Also, you might want to grab some Wii component cables and set it up in progressive scan. They're only like 20ish$ but it makes a difference.

Things like items and HUDs that are always on screen will burn in with a plasma and be there forever though.

That's pure FUD (Fear, uncertainty, and doubt) -- kind of like saying all LCD's suffer from dead or stuck pixels. Decent plasma TV's have ways to minimize any image retention and ways to remove it if it does happen to occur (which is rare and happens about as much as it happens on CRT).

Very true. On mine whenever I play any game that has a HUD it will stay stuck and noticeable, but only for a while, as I play other games, the stuck 'items' disappear. Recently I've been doing a lot of COD4 and when I turn off my console there is a bit of a mess, but so far it disappears, and it has been more than a year now.

Same with me. Things are burnt in for only a short period. I rarely ever notice it. Games still look better on plasma, so its worth it.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I guess what I am probably wondering about is the size of the set. I took Okami over to a neighbor's house yesterday and he's got a 60-inch Mitsu DLP TV in his den, and Okami did not look good on it. Amaterasu was very blurry and so were the background scenes. I am guessing this is because the TV was just too big, and the Wii doesn't output that high of a resolution.

I am hoping that on a smaller TV in 16:9 and progressive scan, it will look terrific. Better than on our old Standard def set. What I don't know is how big is too big. Some of you mentioned 32 so maybe that's a good size so that the game still looks sharp and good. I'm not sure. I don't have an unlimited budget, but I'd certainly like to get as large a size as I can without it making Okami look bad. We would be using this TV pretty much just for the Wii so getting it right is important.

I'm guessing that composite cables where used, right? If this was the case, the best thing to do is test with component cables, they make quite the difference. I remember playing GTA : SA some years ago, and while I had no problem using the composite cables (30" LCD TV) I remember at one time finding a cheap S-Video cable for my PS2, man, talk about a difference. Everything was so much sharper, the little map at the bottom suddenly made sense I could tell the difference between my properties and banks, text was sharper. Of course, component cables are not miracle workers, but they certainly make for a sharper image.

May I offer the following LINK with comparison pictures of Wii games with component cables and composite cables. Click on the images for larger pictures.

If this is only for Wii gaming, I'm pretty sure this would suffice.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8636675&st=insignia&lp=4&type=product&cp=2&id=1194054017282

I'm playing the first Metroid Prime on this set as we speak and it blows me away with how good it still looks after 5 or 6 years, but just make sure you have something like this.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8989525&st=wii+component+&lp=3&type=product&cp=1&id=1218008590688

(and i don't mean to insult you if you already know this, but simply plugging in the cables doesn't set the Wii to progressive scan, you have to manually do it on the wii settings menu... some people just don't know stuff like this so i just thought i'd mention it)

Are you sure you want to let how Okami looks on a hdtv set determine the size of tv you get? Anyway, I guess it'll look good to decent in the 32"-46" range.
