Sega announces another RPG for the DS called 7th Dragon

Sega's 7th Dragon, announced this week in Japan's Weekly Famitsu magazine, is a Nintendo DS game with a seriously deep pedigree. The title's being produced by Rieko Kodama, a woman heavily involved with Skies of Arcadia and the Phantasy Star series before it went online; this is the first RPG she's been involved with in six years. Kazuya Niinou, who distinguished himself with Etrian Odyssey last year, is the director, while music composing duties are being handled by Yuzo Koshiro, who needs no introduction among game soundtrack freaks.

What sort of game is this dream team of JRPG-dom making? So far it looks like a standard, turn-based role-player with a few twists. You control parties of four in the fight against the dragons, creating characters from scratch and assigning one of seven ****s to each. The DS's top screen depicts the action, while the bottom screen displays a map of the world that's constantly updated to show the current territorial situation between humans and dragons.

The game's due out spring 2009 in Japan, and with a staff as pedigreed as this one, we can only hope a US release isn't too far behind.

And the hits just keeps on coming!

Skies of Arcadia is one of the best RPG's i've played. Bought it for the GC, since i never owned a DC.

I saw Skies of Arcadia and I almost stopped reading... And then I saw Etrian Odyssey...

I'll keep an eye on it, but I'm not expecting much given how much I disliked Skies.

Its sooooo unfair... THERE ARE WAAAAAAAAY TOO MANY GREAT GAMES FOR THE DS!!!!

Seriously, they keep comming one after the other. I have about 30 DSgames I still havent finished! Kirby Superstar Ultra comes out, I play it, then Knights in the Nightmare comes out, I play it, then World Destruction comes out, I play it...... THEN I find a copy of Hercules no Eikou... Damn..

7th Dragon looks great, but I know I shouldnt touch it till I catch up with my other games.

That it is, but then again, Nintendo's handhelds have been where a Nintendo gamer would go for their RPG fix ever since the GBA (as we all know the gamecube was severely lacking in the RPG category and the Wii really isn't doing much better [keyword being much]).

I know, I found a copy and played it.... but not for long:P

omg, phantasy star series... the phantasy star 4 was one of the best rpgs i had ever played, i simply loved that game.

So i'm really looking foward this game, hope its good.
