SEGA has surpassed Capcom as the Wii's best third party publisher. They've already given us this list of solid titles: Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz Sega Superstars Tennis Ghost Squad Sonic and the Secret Rings NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams Samba de Amigo Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Sonic Unleashed The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return Are any of those games outstanding? No, not really. But each of them is a quality title. That is a very respectable list of games, and the important part is that most were designed for the Wii, and the multiplatform games on that list are best on Wii (Sonic Unleashed especially). SEGA has also released some mediocre games (Bleach 1, Bass Fishing, Sonic Riders 2), but at least they're giving us options. Every game on the above list scored between 6 and 8.5 on Gamespot/IGN/Eurogamer/Nintendo Power. But coming games is where SEGA is really starting to catch its stride. First, we have Let's Tap. Look at these reviews so far: EDGE: 8 Eurogamer: 8 Famitsu: 8/8/8/7 Next, The House of the Dead Overkill. IGN: 8.3 Eurogamer: 8 EDGE: 8 EDGE and Eurogamer are notoriously harsh sources, so for both games to earn an 8 from both sources is quite an impressive feat. That brings us to Sonic and the Black Knight. It appears to be a mix of what was good about Unleashed and Secret Rings, without any of the bad. We've got but one review so far, and that's an 8/10 from Nintendo Power. Black Knight may not be on par with the best in the Sonic series, but I have a feeling it will be the best 3D Sonic since the Dreamcast. But SEGA isn't stopping there. They're publishing The Conduit and MadWorld, both of which have the Wii faithful foaming at the mouth. They've also said they have interest in turning the Conduit into a series of the first one takes off. Finally, we have the new Bleach game. Now, I hate the Bleach anime and manga. I also didn't like the first Bleach game on Wii. So why would I be interested in this one? Simple. Because Treasure is the developer. Treasure, the studio behind such masterpieces as Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga, Gunstar Heroes, and Bangai-O. They also made the Bleach DS games, both of which are outstanding fighters. This game has already been reviewed by Famitsu, and it scored 8,8,7,7. So whether SEGA is publishing or developing on Wii, it's important to recognize the effort they're puttting into the games. An effort quite uncommon among Wii publishers. I'm buying The Conduit, Madworld, Sonic and the Black Knight, Bleach Wii, The House of the Dead Overkill, and Let's Tap as soon as I can. How about you guys?

No such thing as "too many games" if most of them are quality titles. SEGA is a huge publisher, with many internal studios, many subsidiaries, and many partners (such as Platinum). You're telling me that you'd rather SEGA wasn't releasing The Conduit, Madworld, Let's Tap, Sonic and the Black Knight, The House of the Dead Overkill, and Bleach?

I think they will. In my opinion, SEGA as a whole really turned it around when they look Iizuka off the lead role as Sonic designer (he's the guy who thought Shadow the Hedgehog would be a good idea).

Wii owners should be proud all 3rd party developers are greedy bastards. They should also be proud that the Wii sells like crack. The more people that own a wii, the better chance of the games selling.

Capcom got complacent. They gave us outstanding games like Zack and Wiki, but then they decided to just mail it in for the rest of the generation on the Wii. Okami, Resident Evil 4, and Dead Rising are great games (even though Dead Rising Wii looks awful), but I've already played them. Give me something new. SEGA is guilty too, porting and compiling games like SEGA Bass Fishing and The House of the Dead. But at least the majority of what they're putting out is original or new. Sequels, not remakes and ports.

I wouldn't say Nintendo has abandoned it. I loved Animal Crossing, and Sin and Punishment 2 makes me want to build a time machine.

Show them there's demand. Buy Phantasy Star Zero for DS, and keep supporting their Wii efforts.

You do realize that Nintendo has been the best developer thus far for the Wii...

And with Punch-Out coming out you could hardly say it "abandoned" it...

I agree. Shadow looks bad ass with guns, but the guns were so unbalanced and weapons like the bazookas were very difficult to aim. Too bad the dude couldn't have thought up of the idea for the Wii instead, cause I've been thinking about it and Shadow the Hedgehog could've worked really well for the Wii. You have your analog stick and buttons for normal movement, and you have the remote IR aimer for 3rd person shooting. Wouldn't that be great?

We know, but people have been fearing Nintendo has been abandoning their system for the Gamecube ports. I disagree with that statement, but the statement I agree on is Sega has pretty much taken the Wii.

Please, don't try to scare me like that ever again. I don't think I want to imagine the state of the Wii if Sega was really in charge of the thing. :P Anyways, onto the main topic of this thread... While Sega has been very active on the Wii, especially of late, I don't think I'm quite ready to dethrone Capcom as the best Wii third party publisher. The reason I say this is because I think Capcom's lineup has been the more impressive of the two, despite not having quite as many games. Yeah, a couple of those games are Wii-makes, but you also have to give the company credit for giving games like Zack&Wiki and We Love Golf a shot as well. It just feels like Capcom has given a greater effort in trying to create games that really make solid use of the Wii itself. Plus, until Sega gives me a Sonic game like Capcom did with Mega Man 9, I don't think I could ever see them in the same light. :P

They keep saying it because they don't know what the hell they're talking about. I mean this literally, they don't know what Nintendo is cooking up for the Wii they just assume based on evidence of little value that they are right. We already know Punch-Out, Sin and Punishment 2 and Pikmin 3 are on the way we also know that the Mario team, Zelda team and Retro are at work but those projects aren't coming in the next few month so people ignore them. I've learned that hardcore gamers can only see the small picture and live only in the immediate present, like brainless fruit flies.

Since I don't care for Nintendo's game style (It's the motion controls that got me to buy the Wii and thankfully I've found enough third party games that keep me ocupied), it's great that third parties are waking up. The Conduit looks like it will be a great game and I'm highly interested in Monster Hunter 3 (though I hope MH3 isn't like the typical Japanese game full of cut scenes, anime, and boring game play -- and of course that it comes to NA).

I wonder if Sega would make another Sonic Adventure game as good as the first one on the Dreamcast? Sonic Adventure was excellent in my opinion and really pushed the bar for good graphics in 1998. For goodness sakes the Dreamcast was doing 128-bit when the PS1 and N64 were doing 64-bit. That was crazy! Sega is making an epic comeback for sure. The making of Condemed 1 and 2 was great and I was shocked that they made a game like that. Here's to even better titles in the future.

what i hope will happen is that sega and nintendo will do a merger or something, so nintendo keeps appealing to casuals, making a more and more casual version of their hardcore games each reincarnation and being all inovative whereas sega makes the normal and interesting (though for a different reason then why nintendo's games are interesting) 1st party games best of both worlds and yeah, shadow on wii could've been pretty sweet also, after the whole dead rising fiasco, sega has become the new capcom for wii and just because nintendo say their making a new mario and zelda means nothing they've shown us no proof, and i wouldn't be surprised if the new zelda looks worse graphically than twilight princess with an annoying fairy to hold your hand every step of the way including the last boss and if the new mario has a worse gimmick than the spring suit besides, only 6 or so games in the next 2 years is nothing

Because last time they announced their big games too early everyone got pissed off when they got delayed or moved to a newer platform. Metroid Prime 3, Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros Brawl. It happened with all of them.

Comparing the ds version with the wii one make me realise that you havent play both...

AC wii is by far the best of the series on a home system, DS one was ok but i cant hang it with a portable version of AC, graphicly WW doesnt had that special charm

AC and Brawl are the only 08 games I still playing, Ninty never fail me ;)

i didn't mean literally, jeeze... i meant that its still got freakin n64 graphics! it's 2009 now, this is why people think wii has **** graphics

no effort put in, cheap cash in, like dead rising wii

"Um, Wii Fit, Wii Music, Mario Kart, Mario Brawl, Animal Crossing, Wario Land"

wii fit - an excuse for the gymn, alright but pointless for £70, yes i've got it by the way and other than the first month i had it, i hvaen't played it at all

wii music - utter bollocks

mario brawl - do you mean ssbb? if so, then fair, personally i thought it was only alright, but i accept it as a very good game

animal crossing - i won't even bother

wario land - fairish, a 2d platformer outside of virtual console/wiiware?

murasma can get away with it since it looks breathtaking, but wario land is only very smooth

the real highlight of 2008 was no more heroes, the world ends with you and sonic unleashed, the last one for me at least

there was also cod5 i guess, pretty sick

none of them were first party

Wait a second here... So the fact that Nintendo has done more with the Wii up to this point than any other system it has made (and I'm just talking retail titles here) means nothing because 2008 ended with Animal Crossing and Wii Music? And the fact that Nintendo are releasing a few remakes and hasn't said anything regarding the end of this year means that it's only interested in raking in the cash it's getting now? Are we forgetting the fact that Nintendo is not only working with one, but TWO super popular systems here, while trying to make software for both of them? If Nintendo has abandoned the Wii, I want to know what it's really going to take...

resi 4 port doesn't really count....

mega man 9 must've cost loads to create i'm sure

zack and wiki just gets lost between the countless many puzzle/party games on the system, just cause it does it better doesn't mean people will take notice when a hundred more are released each month

sega.. well they've just released unleashed
wii exclusive sonic and the black knight is out next month
house of the dead overkill is out next week
madworld is out next month
conduit is out in june

i know the last two are only published by them, but that's still support

so sega easily winscheese7monkey

Huh? I'm not sure how Sega "easily wins" based on this. Yeah, Resident Evil 4 and Okami were ports, but I think we all have to agree that they're quality games. Nothing wrong with trying to breathe new life into some of last gen's best games. It's just as much support as publishing two games at the last minute, if not more. Plus, at least RE4 and Okami are established at the moment, something we won't be able to say about Madworld and The Conduit until they're released. And ok, Mega Man 9 was a WiiWare title, but that doesn't deminish it's quality, either. Personally, I consider that game a far more welcome sight than Sega constantly releasing these horrible Sonic concepts. In fact, Sega should learn a thing or two from Capcom I think... Plus, what does the sales of Zack&Wiki have to do with the support that Capcom has given the Wii? Just because it didn't sell as well as Capcom would have hoped doesn't mean that it wasn't an effort on their part to create a unique gaming experience on the system, which is something very few developers can actually say it has done.

Maybe you believe that Sega has done a better job, and if so, that's cool. Personally, I disagree, but that's not the point. :P I just don't think it's fair to dismiss what Capcom has done up to this point.

SEGA DOES WHAT NINTENDON'T.

Nintendo should be embarrased that their old rival that went asunder in the hardware wars is the company keeping Nintendo's longtime gamers hanging on to their Wii's.

Bringing us House of the Dead: Overkill, and stepping up to publish MadWorld and The Conduit deserves a huge round of applause. Sega is taking a risk on an audience many other publishers don't believe exist on the Wii owner audience. I've never been a huge Sega fan, but kudos to them for bringing some games much needed after that ATROCIOUS Holiday 08 period, I mean Animal Crossing Redux as the only answer for the hardcore Nintendo? Really?

I would rather play Capcom's games (RE4 and Zack & Wiki) over that trash Sega puts out.

[QUOTE="yeahyeahbigN"]why do people keep saying nintendo abandoned their own system? i mean, you do realize it takes time to make a quality game? just saying.....maxgil2

Because all they could show for 2008 was tada Wii Music & Animal Crossing (rehash)...now in 2009 besides Punch Out what else?..oh GC wiimakes..woohoo?If they were cooking up something great wouldn't they want to let ppl know?...maybe they aren't cooking up anything cause they don't think they hav to because the $$$$ is coming in anyways...

For some reason Nintendo have always been quite secretive, except during the GC era, when they put all their eggs in one basket, released all their best games at the beginning (which they very nearly did this time too) and the console suffered long periods of no games. Saying that, maybe its the only way of stopping third parties whining that their games dont sell because they didnt put enough effort into them (which leads to them blaming Nintendo fans for only buyng Nintendo games, which as you can see from the complaints on here is utter bull). Ive been saying this for ages, but we whinged for almost a decade about poor third party support, now Nintendo have taken steps to improve it, albeit slowly (it takes longer without a successful console like the PS1 behind you).

And for the record, im amazed and in utter disbelief at the reaction to Wii Music. Its why fanboyism is a very, very bad thing. Nobody was meant to expect anything from it, it wasnt meant to be the next Zelda, so why dont people put the game in its proper context as a game with potential mass appeal? Months later fanboys continue to lick their self-inflicted wounds from the "loss" of Nintendo's hardcore games, which they knew deep down were actually coming anyway. I would love to have seen all the red faces on this forum when Sin and Punishment 2 and Pikmin 3 were announced, as well as Punch Out.

This is why people should stop second guessing all the time, they constantly set themselves up for disappointment and make crazy judgements or totally jump the gun. I wish everyone would take every piece of info with a grain of salt until they get some evidence

Kudos to Sega for actually having the balls to capitalise on the opportunity given to them.

Every publisher puts out trash. You'd do well to take a look at Dead Rising. The point is, SEGA is offering more quality games now and in the future than Capcom. They're giving us options. Mega Man 9 and Zack and Wiki were undeniably awesome, but those games only go so far. SEGA has already released Super Monkey Ball, Sonic and the Secret Rings, SEGA Superstars Tennis, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, House of the Dead 2 and 3 Return, Samba de Amigo, etc. Capcom's best are arguably better than that list, but SEGA is releasing volume. Options. That's what it's about, because different people have different tastes. And the six Wii exclusives they have coming are six of the most anticipated games on the market.

Because last time they announced their big games too early everyone got pissed off when they got delayed or moved to a newer platform. Metroid Prime 3, Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros Brawl. It happened with all of them.colecoavenger

ic, well I'd rather they give me some news like what they're working on...not release dates..rather than no news.

Um, Wii Fit, Wii Music, Mario Kart, Mario Brawl, Animal Crossing, Wario Land. That's quite a few games. Plus Mario Galaxy had been out less than 2 months when 2008 started. What are you whining about?santiagochile

Wii Fit? - don't need that I hav my own training regime, Wii music - crap, you're not seriously abt this?..Mario Kart clocked it, Mario Brawl -> waay overhype, clocked it, SMG -> clocked it. ...Animal Crossing -> No rehash with addons?? Wario Land -> No.

Madmangamer364

Well you can't really keep focusng on the past ...means nothing after a year or 2 has passed..& then they come up with GC wiimakes which is even more lame. Could be that Im just an impatient sod :P...& that Im pissed that DS is getting much better titles than Wii & is actually overshadowing Wii atm imo.

Well now SEGA has stepped up...or isit gonna be like a see-saw thing? ...this yr SEGA, next yr Ninti? ...as per my original post, not getting news on what Nintendo is bringing out ..except of course Punch Out ..is disappointing.

I think you purchased the WRONG console. Wii Music is a great title. So is Wii Fit. Just because you don't understand them, doesn't mean they aren't great. Nintendo is going in a different direction. Maybe you should try a different console.

^ No I haven't....Wii music & Wii Fit might be for you but not for me...previous Nintendo titles like SMG, Mario Kart, MP3 & Paper Mario were great..just dissappointed not hearing much from Nintendo except Punch Out & GC Wii makes = lame. ;)

I will eventually own all 3 console, but that doesn't mean I don't want to play the Wii anymore..lol
