i agree with you. a lot of people dismiss the ds as a gaming device directed at a younger, less serious gaming audience. it's easy to judge too, considering the sorts of titles that are being released in massive amounts.
but i think the ds has depth, very good quality games, and will go down as one of the pioneering ambitious gaming devices of all time. which is why i'm so invested in it. of course, i could be very wrong, but i love it for what it is. for every one good/decent title, there's 50 bad ones. there's not much that can be done about that.
A DS can play media also....just with lower quality....
Some people just need some closure...it's like, if you've gotten a PSP for portable gaming, you'll feel weird comparing the games between the PSP and the DS. Hence, you'll rationalize that the PSP is the superior choice. But for a minority that looked out of the box, they understood that both have their strengths, and thus, got both the PSP and the DS.
I used to think that the DS has poor graphics, but it's just that i do not know its strengths well enough. The opening cutscenes on the DS can be awesome, for example, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, Tales of Hearts, the new Valkyrie Profile game.
Game play graphics may be inferior to the PSP, but i think it's not entirely a bad point, it's a double edged sword. Games with simple graphics, that play well, suits the DS, and such games are here to stay. However, if they were to go onto the PSP, they'll look stupid and play stupid.
I have both, and i think it's not the console that matters in the end. It's the games. When a good game comes onto the DS, the PSP gets neglected. When a good game comes to the PSP, the DS gets neglected. Unless it's an avid gamer, and he/she decides to commit to both consoles equally, like keeping two pets.
...The DS can't play MP3s and movies unless you're using a device that we can't talk about on these forums... Also, more games =/= better. The Dreamcast had a better ratio of good-to-bad games than the Gamecube, and its library was roughly half that of the Cube's.Can a DS play music, and I presume you mean MP3s? Yes
Can a DS play movies? Yes
Can the DS surf the web? Yes
Are there more than twice as many DSs as PSPs in the world? Yes
I think your friend's argument is mute.

Granted, I favor the DS over the PSP, but your argument is lacking. Also, I believe the word you're looking for is "moot", not "mute"...
people can't give the ds a chance cuz they're stupid and they have no idea what they are talking about, they just say whatever that goes to their minds without any researching. the ds is good you should appreciate it even though it has some crappy graphics, the games are awesome

I'm not so sure about this statement. The PSP is the best selling console for some time in Japan, you know. (I bet PSP fanboys dunno about this)

actually its in pspfanboy.comI just bought Dragon quest 4 and my friend is like dude a ds has bad graphics and it sucks... and i tell him give me a good reason why ds sucks and he says it cause it can't play movies, musics, photos, or internet. It just makes me mad how people say DS sucks and they really NEVER gave it a tryHellfury360your friend needs to grow up coz he sounds like he doesnt know anything about the ds
Well, it`s funny because people in the PSP forum complain that the DS is more popular... Believe me, I know :P
But really... Why can`t people just be happy with what they own... Or own both ;)
the dsi improved with a camera, picture editor, music player and recorder, internet, sd slot, internal flash memory, bigger screens, stronger wifi, and its own virtual shop.
dsi problems: weak hinge{maybe}, less battery life, and no gba slot
the psp 3000 improved with a better LCD screen, increased color range, and a microphone.
psp problems: visible scan lines, less battery life, and still requires the user to pay for a memory stick
Larger variety of games: dsi
Better graphics: psp 3000
More cheaper: dsi{at the moment}
Availability: psp 3000{came to America or Europe before the dsi did}
