Hey guys -

Just wondering what your opinion was on if i should get a DS.

Heres my background - Im a PC gamer really - but im looking for something that i can take with me that's a bit of fun. Ive got a pritty top end PC so im kind of used to the best graphics and such, however i wouldnt be expecting fantastic graphics from the DS. So i could use my PC to do my hardcore gaming - like Crysis, Unreal 3 etc...

I was planning to get he DS lite with Brain Training and maybe Final Fantasy III? Or the new Zelda. Could someone fill me in on how these are? is the story in FF3 any good? I love FF7 and FF10 because of the story - very nice.

Theres a fair bit of Hype around this Zelda game - however i have sadley never played Zelda before - should i be ok to just jump in there and give it a go? or will i be lost in the plot.

Also - does the DS have any cababilites beyond playign the cartridge games? such as Wi-Fi internet?

It's also important to note i used to have a DS - however i sold it on ebay because i found i was not playing it enough, plus i needed the cash for my new PC - but not I already have that PC.

I would love some opinions here guys. Cheers, Samulies.

If you are looking for a portable console DS is definetely what you should get. It has great features such as the stylus which is lots of fun to use. You can even use your fingers and your screen will suffer absolutely no damage at all.It has built-in wi-fi that works perfectly with my wireless-g network although it does not have a web browser. It has a wifi chatroom that u can use to chat with anyone withing 50feet although I've had it work for longer distances(ie: 70-100 feet). The Wifi is also very useful with games such as pokemon which allows you to battle with people from all over the world and even comes with VoIP while in battle so thats like a free call! Although if you are looking for a console with better graphics and more media features you should look into purchasing a PSP Giga Pack which provides you with Mp3, Video, Photo viewing and gaming features.

Wow... is that second post readable at all? It looks painful!

Anyways I'd say my DS was worth the purchase.

I'm not sure what other types of games you are interested in but there are many games worth purchasing on the system in my opinion.

The new Zelda game isn't really comparable to any of the other Zelda games due to its total stylus reliant game play mechanics, its a new approach only possible on the DS. But if the puzzles and dungeon crawling aspects are brought from the past games, its definitely a game to look forward to (and is the reason for its anticipation).

The FF3 game, I admit I haven't played it, isn't going to have a complex storyline compared to the games you mentioned, it is a remake of a pretty old game after all.

I personally don't care for the Brain Training stuff since its hard to label them as games, so I think it boils down to your personal choice on that one.

There are many games worth mentioning that might interest you too.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike

A good turn-based military strategy game. Its similar to RTSs that you need to crank out units in factories, and need resources in form of buildings.

Elite Beat Agents

Good rhythm game that may seem short but brings out quite of a challenge in the last two difficulties (where the meat of the game is anyways)

Meteos

Launch game but its a great puzzle game that has a unique idea behind the falling block genre.

Castlevania Series

Was and still is good on the nintendo handheld platform. Both games that came out for the DS is solid.

Games I am anticipating is the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2. Which has a solid release date for Japan but nowhere else. Considering that the GBA got its english version of FFTA I'm pretty sure its going to come at some point. In the mean time, I'm grabbing Zelda and maybe Luminous Arc.

Every answer will most likely be Yes, u should of posted in the System Wars forum.

Anyways you should get a DS after Christmas, when stores have really low prices so they can clear out last year stock and bring in new stock.

Get one.

Why? Multiplayer, Meeting new people and great games Nintendo could only make.

When I was at the airport I saw some guys playing DS. I looked at them and gave a nod, and we were on pictochat with about 10 people who overheard us talking about the other people. I was shocked that so many people had a DS.

On the plane ride we all played Mario Kart DS. When the pilot read the temperature and I saw the plane lower I was shocked because the time *FLEW*(haha. I crack myself up.) by.

Recommendations: Since you're a PC gamer, you might appreciate Metroid Prime Hunters. Wifi makes the game, and the graphics are pretty good for a handheld. You might also enjoy the transition from mouse and keyboard to stylus and left hand...

Since you like RPGs also I'm guessing, I have no idea what you like so it's up to you.

EDIT:Oh yeah BTW, The DS has software you can by for cheap to connect to the internet, free of charge. If you're interested you can buy media cartridges to play music and video, but I suppose it would work better with a PSP.

I wouldnt get metroid - if i wanted to play FPSI would crank up the bioshock or the Jericho or someting like that on my PC.

Im not looking for similar games - thats the idea is soemthing differnt.

That said thanks for all the responces so far guys - ive decided il get one if i have enough cash left over for Unreal Tounerment 3, Crysis and The Witcher on PC. Lets hope so.

I think il get it with the new Zelda (its already out here (Australia btw)) and il get brain training off ebay to.

IS brain training 1 better? or should i go with the second one? what are the differnces?
