I live in australia, and no idea when we're getting brawl, a store nearby is selling a bundle with smash bros brawl and a freeloader for $130 (games cost 100 in aus), this is the US version, so I'm wondering if I'll be able to play people online in aus with this version when the proper disc is released.

Otherwise i'll end up spending $230 on this game

Ah, you're lucky to be able to purchase it instantly. I ordered mine for $120 with the freeloader of ebay and it won't be arriving until next week.

Not sure how online will work between different regions and formats though, but considering we have to wait until June I'd say buy it regardless. If the online thing does screw up I'm just gonna sell my import copy when it gets released.

Gamespot's Brawl page has it listed as June for Australia.

I noticed EB also has it down for June, but no exact release date yet.

It gets rid of region lock by making the game disc playable on the Wii (so us in Australia can play the NTSC version of games).

im from the uk, and was considering that, but i have two major problems:

* wii-updates: nintendo has blocked freeloader before by updating thier system, and will most likely do it again. you can choose not to update, howeverm sooner or later, nintendo will bundle a game which requires you to update to run it (like galaxy did).

* ip-region blocking: the reason i fel nintendo is taking so long to port smash over to europe (and aus) is to get their online infrastructur ready. as of yet, i believe nintendo will ban all PAL ips (the way they had banned american ips to stop them from importing japenese versions).

hence, iv opted not to buy smash with freeloader, since sooner or later, the game will become obsolete. i can't play online anyway. considering i may have to buy the uk version anyway when it releases here (coz nintendo will block my freeloader), i didnt think it was worth it... not even for smash (one of the only reasons im still with nintendo to begin with)

I was also thinking of buying a freeloader but there is a major flaw in this way of playing games. Lets say Nintendo does a system update disabling freeloaders, sure Datel promises you that they will give you a new updated freeloader. But how long will it take for them to make that, considering they worked a year to build this freeloader. Under the time you're waiting for your updated freeloader (which will probably take months), you wont be able to play all the imported games. So thats why I dont think freeloaders are a good solution.

The Wii Freeloader does let you go online. The problem is though if it will be blocked hope not.
