Should I buy now, wait, or skip?

What Rocky said. Also, what system (if any) do you have now? Do the most popluar games in the Wii library interest you? If not, why buy it? Are you a retro gamer who might be interested in the back catalog of Virtual Console games available on the Wii?

Why wait for more games to come out when there are great titles out already?

I just got one (thank you, hurricane related irrationality!), and I already own a PS3, 360, and an acceptable PC. If you enjoy Nintendo games, you're obviously only going to get them on the Wii. Including Nintendo franchises, there are roughly a dozen arguably "good" games (I've already browsed the library, read the reviews, etc). Online play is inferior to the other three major platforms, excluding handhelds. While the backwards compatibility is awesome if you're in my boat and you opted out on the GC last generation, the virtual console is generally pointless if you are a retro gamer. You probably own most of the systems they're offering games for, and many of the games cost more on the VC than they do at a garage sale, flea market, Ebay, or Amazon. There are some exceptions...Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger...you know. It would be more cost effective to buy the systems and games that you want. If there's only a few that interest you, then the VC is probably convenient and enjoyable, but that hasn't been my personal experience. Wiiware is interesting, though in most cases it seems like another medium in the pop-culture sensations that are user-generated content/material and the casual gaming craze. It's on the Wii, Wiiware, mobile phone, DS, PSP, PC, Mac, and soon to be a factor in Microsoft and Sony's business model. We all know what I mean by casual, so let's not play jaded semantics. Such games bolster profits throughout the industry, but it just isn't my thing. It probably isn't yours either. I also got my Wii for my girlfriend, primarily, who is absolutely enamored with the Wii. If I were single, I don't know if I would have considered purchasing it anymore than I did their previous two systems. I've enjoyed playing her family's Wii, and I'll enjoy playing it together with her, but I don't know if I could personally suggest it to you, unless you love Zelda as much as I do. ;)YourChaosIsntMe

THIS guy knows what he's talking about. Except I think there are more than roughly a dozen good titles. I think it's more around 20 or something. But even if it is only about 12 good games at the moment, there are a bunch of awesome games coming to the Wii in 2009. If I were you, I'd probably wait til then, since you might not be able to find a Wii right now anyways.

I have had a ps3 for 8 months and i just got a wii yesterday with mario kart and a couple of gamecube games (luigi's mansion, super mario sunshine)...honestly the wii is wayyy to under-rated. I love it and for years i've been a hardcore gamer only. I've only liked metal gear solid, god of war, killzone, resistance, call of duty 4 and those types of games until yesterday when i tried out the wii. It is seriously the most fun i have ever had, i feel like a little kid again. I already downloaded super mario bros 3 and its awesome, and the gamecube games work great with a gamecube controller. Mario Kart wii is incredible and a lottt of fun and to tell you the truth this system is perfect for anyone that owns a 360 or a ps3. If you already have a hardcore system you cant go wrong by getting a wii.odisho68

I agree, so many of our peers disregard the Wii simply because it isn't the Dreamcast/Genesis/PSX/PS3/Xbox/whatever, and it's downright ignorant. One of the interesting aspects of the Wii is the very reason so many of our biased friends criticize it. The games are not only fun and enjoyable (though yes, there is an abundance of shovelware...), but actually incorporates a larger and more varied demographic. With the Wii, I'm no longer surrounded by titanium walls with signs that read "he-man woman haters club" when I play videogames in my living room, hahaha. The only way I've ever been able to do that is by busting out the NES or 2600. Ironically enough, when you go past the PR and "core" gamer bias, the available top-tier games for each system stands at about 15 titles, give or take.

Responding to your response to my post, the "dozen or so" games that I was referring to are the ones that I feel appeal to you and I specifically; in other words the core gaming demographic. I don't see many families gathering around the TV for Metroid, haha. You're right, there are about 20, but nearly half of those I would probably never sit down and play alone or for an extended period of time.

I think it depends on whether you'd like the Wii on its own or with games. Sometimes it can seem like you are getting a pleasing economy of scale when you get a Wii with X amounts of games for a certain price. This is as on their own the Wii with these games would cost a lot more according to the RRP's. However, it truly depends on the games you get with the Wii- are they games you actually want? Are they just games you're getting as they're included in the package deal? The company may include these games as they are left over stock.
