I bought my Wii just a couple of weeks ago so there a lot of games I haven't played, SMG 1 being one of them. Actually the last 3D platform Mario game I played was Mario 64.

Now I hear all this commotion about how perfect SMG 2 is.

Should I buy SMG 1 or go straight to SMG 2 ???

considering how everyone says galaxy 2 is a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE improvement over galaxy 1, i think you should go with the first one before, so you play it with lower standards :P

I concur XD Although, I think you should play the first one first, then the second. But, if you really want to play an even more critically acclaimed game, then Galaxy 2 is your choice.

SMG was an excellent game as well. Definitely play it, you will have tons of fun, trust me. After you finish it, move onto SMG2.....yes, it's even better! I'm loving it.

You don't have to get SMG 1 first, but I would definitely recommend getting both and playing SMG 1 first.

If you play SMG 2 first, your experience with SMG 1 may not be the same if you had played it first.

I read that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is much harder than the first one so I would recommend that you'd beat the 1st one first.

I'd go from 1 to 2. Go from awesome to awesomer, instead of going from awesomer to awesome, because if you were to do the latter, you would make the awesomeness of Super Mario galaxy 1 feel less awesome.

I'd reccomend you play both, just because they're great games, but there's no reason you couldn't skip the first one. I mean the story probably isn't going to confuse you too much.

Definitely would recommend getting both. But if you can only get one, get SMG2. It's even better than the first! You don't need to know any story or anything.

do you even care for platformers? have you stayed away from mario or platformers all together? if you do like them, then you should try it. if you dont, then i say you shouldnt but its your money. i dont like racing games. no matter how well they are reviewed i dont go out and buy them but thats just me.

You obviously want to play SMG2, and playing through the first one just to do the first one to get to the second sounds slightly "sufferable," in my opinion. Just play them both at the same time, and when you get bored of one, put in the other.

Get Galaxy 1. Don't spoil yourself. It's also considerably cheaper used.

There's nothing in Super Mario Galaxy 1 that will spoil you in Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I recommend both but if you can only afford one game at a time, get 2.

I say play the first than the 2nd. So that way you won't feel disappointed when you decide to play the first one afterward. Also, if you play the first one first, you'll see the greatness in the 2nd one when you play it afterward. Besides, both are two of the best Wii games so I recommend having both in your library no matter what.

No, it'll feel like a step back since SMG2 is considered a better game. It'll be like playing Street Fighter IV after playing Super Street Fighter IV. Good but definitely not as good.

Galaxy 1 is too good a game to be a disappointment, but because Galaxy 2 so far is better than Galaxy 1. the first game will feel like a sequel, but it wont be something where its unplayable. Looking forward to Galaxy 2, while playing 1 will only hamper the experience, they should play G2, enjoy it, focused on it and then do the same for G1 later.

You need to play the first one to get most out of SMG2, the second is a continuation of that, you will appreciate the improvement of SMG2 more if you play the original first.

and not just for that reason, the first game was the best game of this gen, before SMG2 :P

Both are great games and you really can't go wrong with either of them. I like the first Galaxy more though.

They are the two best games on the system so of course you should buy both. And you may as well just play them in order.
