Should I get a new one now, or wait for Wii 2.0?

Here's the situation.  I have a Wii, and it overheated, thus causing it to damage some of the hardward and making it project odd groups of colored pixels spread throughout the screen.  Now, I can either, under my 90 day extended warranty with Nintendo, get a new one now free of charge apparently, with all of my info from my Wii moved to the new one.  Or, under the warrantee I bought from GameStop at the time of purchase, I can get it within the next year when the updated version of the Wii comes out.  Now, the second one seems better, but is there a flaw in my plan?  Oh, and I can deal with my Wii for now, but I don't want to have ugly looking games forever.  So I am for sure going with one of these options.  And if this seems unethical, post your opinions.   Thanks:).

Wii 2.0 = DVD playback and it's only announced for Japan. It isn't worth waiting, IMO. Besides even if Nintendo does release a new Wii in other territories, all of the games will still play on the old Wii, so I'd get it fixed asap.

Just get your free one. If you really want a DVD player buy one itself. They aren't that expensive. I have a TV with a built in DVD player, so I don't have these kinds of problems.

I don't know about these "other goodies" besides DVD playback, but you can tripple Wii's memory just by buying a $40 1 Gig SD card right now. So, I really don't see the incentive to wait, unless a red Wii is really that important to you.

Depends on how much you want the stuff the upgraded Wii is said to have. Personally, I'd never wait for it if I was in the same situation as you. I do not recommend waiting. There's no info on it (besides rumours) and no release date, so be prepared to wait for a long time (if it even gets released). Nothing the upgraded Wii is said to have interests me.

90 day extended warranty? The Wii has a one-year warranty. And if you are in the US and you registered it you got an extra 3 months.

If 2.0 comes out it is likely well more than a year away. DVD players are super cheap, why do people want their Wii to play movies? And 2.0 will not support HD.

Furthermore, its not like it will be a console very different from what you have now. Same specs, but more internal memory. With SD cards also being so cheap, why wait for 2.0? Also I see firmware updates coming in the near future that will allow you to use USB drives.

You got ripped off by Gamestop

The Wii has a one year warranty that adds another 3 months on once you register.
The Nintendo warranty also covers more then the Gamestop one.

Wii 2.0 os a RUMOR. The Wii will probably be rereleased with a DVD player, and that's it. When that happens, Wii Sports will not be packed in.

You could be waiting a long time.
