I was readin the review for trace memories and i was kind of worried about how long it takes to complete the game. It only says you can complete it 4-5 hours in one play through. I dont plan on doing that so i want to know how long it took a casual player to finish it. I just dont wanna wste my money on somethin that doesnt last. If  i dont like what i hear ill just go for hotel dusk

It took me roughly 5 hours to beat trace. It's more puzzle based while dusk is more conversation based. Dusk is a vastly better game and it lasts for roughly 20 hours on the first playthrough. Both games have a couple of diff endings (one "good" ending if you do everything). I recommend if you can getting both, playing trace first and then dusk, as you'll appreciate the strides they made in the genre. I did it reversely. After beating dusk I picked up trace. It's very short but I liked it (Although not nearly as much as dusk, which is my fav DS game at the moment). The story in dusk is great, and although there's a lot of reading to do (for those who don't like reading...), I didn't feel as though it was a chore to play. If you can only pick one, get dusk, as it builds on trace very well, in gameplay and length. If you can get both, I recommend doing so, and playing trace then dusk.

Oh, and if you can find it, you can get Trace for 15 bucks used (I payed 13.50 for mine after my discount), in which case it's very much worth it. It may not last, but it's got an interesting albeit somewhat underdeveloped storyline. Dusk is just plain awesome, though.

I'll second that. Trace was cing's first outing on the DS, and I think it was something of an experiment to see if there was a market for a mystery/adventure game genre. It was enough of a success to convince them, and dusk is a brilliant fulfillment of what trace should have been. Dusk is described as an interactive detective novel, and could be a bit linear for some gamers. But I love it, and if you're choosing between trace and dusk, get dusk. If you can find trace cheap, it's worth playing, just for the story etc, but it's nowhere near as well written and designed as dusk is.

That's what I did. It's not the conventional way to do things, but it did make me appreciate the leaps and bounds dusk made in the genre.

Get both. I saw Trace at my local Gamecrazy for $11.99 new. So $30+$12=$42 just for quick math... It's completely worth it btw, im about halfway through Hoteldusk, and its really interesting. I'm at 20 hours(i left it on sleep mode for a LOOOONG time) but i should be around 7-10 hours.

Hotel Dusk is more bang for the buck.  Trace Memory was a good game, but dissappointingly short.  I still think about purchasing TM for my collection, but Hotel Dusk has a permanent spot alongside some of the greatest DS titles available.

hotel dusk for sure

its a much better game IMO. very engaging and pretty challenging if you're not extremely good at adventure games. if you're good at it it still provide some challenge like it did for me.

Just get both.

You can find Trace for under $20 now. Some places sell it for $11!

So just get both.
