I figure that my DS "phat" works just as well as any DS, so why upgrade and pay more for it? With the money you'd save, you could buy a couple games.

I would. It's much more convenient to carry the lite around. It looks like a pretty bad-ass piece of technology to onlookers, too.

I don't see a reason for one person to own two DS units. Keep in mind that they both have the exact same functions.

He meant trading in his old own for the lite.

Yes, I would. DS lite is sexy and more convenient as a portable device, the DS phat is almost physically bad as that monster the PSP.

Yea I would, not only for the improvements with the lite but also because you'll be trading a player that has been used for maybe a year or two for a brand new one.

In terms of hardware defects like broken hinges and such, then yes, maybe the original had less problems.  But for everything else, the DS Lite is much better than the original.  Smaller unit, longer stylus, 4 brightness levels (huge improvement here), and better button placement.  Really, the only minor drawback for some people may be that GBA games stick out from the bottom of the DS Lite.

Ah..I see. Still, its like trading two of the same things in a way. If there's nothing wrong with the one he has, then he should just keep it.

DS Lite is my favorite system ever and I owned the DS regular since it launched. So yea absolutely perfect in that enhances every games performance visually over the regular DS, but a little trade off is that its speakers aren't quite as loud, but I think possibly sound a bit better. (that could just be some kind of unconcious bias I have though)

Definitley upgrade. Just over a month ago I decided to upgrade to DS lite, and I made the right decision.
