Finally had a chance to pop Skyward Sword into the old Wii. I'm sure it will be a terrific game, and while the overall graphics are what I expected, I did NOT expect to see the horrible jagged edges (most notably around close-up shots of linke in-game) and these horizontal lines across the screen.

At first I thought perhaps one of the cats were messing with my component cables, but after a few quick google searches it seems this is just the way the game is.

I was wondering, anybody have any useful tips or tricks to ease up the jaggedness issue? I tried reducing the sharpness of the HDTV all the way, but that really just made the game look like hell. I've heard that the game looks less jagged on a standard definition TV, but no way I'm pulling that thing out of storage for a game.

It's not a big deal, and I have no doubt the game will be great, but I'm wondering if anyone has come across any tricks (maybe some option/setting on my TV I haven't thought of)?

You don't

The Wii has jagged graphics, I have no idea why you want to gum up the screen

Not gonna lie, I hardly noticed them, and, even if I did, I wouldn't care. But I played on a small TV.

I thought it looked bad from far away being all blurry but apparently its bad on purpose they even call it an "artstyle". I was really hoping for Link to pull out a pair of contact lenses from one of those godess cubes. But anyways I didn't have any issues with the graphics - especially character models - up close so i'm not even sure what your talking about.

Skyward Sword is an exceptionally jaggy (aliased :P) game. it doesn't bother me as much as it would usually, because of the artsty1e, it almost looks like it adds to the messy painting look. Still, it is pretty terrible :P. There is only one solution, but I am afraid that it is not legal :P.

In the Wii front menu, change the screen to 16:9 widescreen instead of the standard 4:3.

It will help the game look a lot better.

back away from the screen. Is sit so far away I never see jaggies in any game. I occasionally have trouble reading text, but it isn't a major issue.

There's nothing you can do. In order for the game to look as good as it does and run at 480p at 60fps on the ancient Wii hardware Nintendo had to make some graphics decisions. And having no anti-aliasing at all is what they chose to do. Play it long enough and you'll get over it.

Either play on a smaller TV or use component cables and see if that helps.

Its because your playing on an HDTV or LCD tv, i was quite jaggy on mine too but i got used to it. It looked quite smooth on my friends old standard def tv when i saw him playing it, its simply the systems architecture and how its just not made for that type of format/TV.

As the above poster says, Wii games look quite bad on HDTV's. I've got a 32 inch standard TV in my room and the graphics look great.

You know, I was thinking about doing that actually. I'm also not sure if it is exactly illegal.

If I understand their origins correctly, a lot of the Emulators/Roms started out when people legally purchased coin-op arcade machines... only to have some of the hardware/software components break down over time. When there was no way to fix them in the conventional sense, they opted for the emulation/rom route (completely legally, since they did in fact purchase the machine originally).

Now, I'm not exactly sure how that translates to a home video game console. If I were to Dolphin-ize this game, considering I have purchased a Wii AND the game in question.... where would that fall on the legality scale? (To be candid though, I don't see myself bothering with all of that for this game.... I'll just grin and bear it).

Skyward Sword runs at 30fps, not 60.

Just as a follow-up:

As others have mentioned, after getting a few hours into the game, the Jaggedness others me a lot less (guess I've gotten used to it).

I did change my Wii settings from HDTV to standard, and upon doing so I did notice a little bit of an improvement.

the jaggies are there, bigger the TV the more noticable they are. It's true, overtime your eyes get used to it and eventually just become normalized to it. However, its quite funny how I played both Zelda:SS and Prime 3 (2007 game) on a 50" 1080p, Prime 3 has smoother textures...much easier on the eyes as well.
