I made a thread like this about 2 years ago and it was a smash hit. So now that we know a bit more about it I thought I'd see what y'all'd say now.

I think it'll get a 10 is they add more emphasis to combat, which I think they'll do with the implementation of MotionPlus.

Heavier story

Increased difficulty.

I think this is a recipe for a 10. What do y'all think?

BTW here a linkto the old thread...I didn't want to start it up again due to I am pretty sure I'd get modded. It is fun to go back and look at it, especially if you posted in it back then and can see some of the ways you've changed.

I think the only way Skyward Sword can pull off a 10 is by being different from older Zelda games but still very similar. That may seem confusing but I can't think of any other way to put it. Nintendo needs to make a Zelda game that people won't immediately compare to Ocarina of Time, because the second people start comparing, the possibility to score a 10 goes away.

Those two things have never been in a Zelda game and will never be in a Zelda game

It's just not what Nintendo is looking at for the franchise

If you want those things you have to go elsewhere

I'm not worried about Zelda getting amazing scores all around. Unless they pull a Square-Enix, but I doubt it, Nintendo is all about quality when it comes to first party titles. I know a lot of people hate TP, but even TP was amazing.

I'm not saying they would happen, they would just help its chances of getting a 10 on here.

The controls are the biggest factor in this Zelda game. Zelda Skyward Sword won't get a 10 if the controls aren't fully capable and accurate as the Wii Motion Plus can possibly be, that said on a scale that WiiMotion Plus isn't quite perfect.

With motion controls as heavily used as we've seen I doubt it can get a 10, as people will say they got tired

Maybe but I don't know if GS will be giving a 10 to a Zelda game any time soon unless it's very different but at the same time contains the same core Zelda gameplay. With games like TP and Spirit Tracks scoring AA, I can't see this getting a 10.

Well by that logic EA Sports Active should get a really low score. Red Steel 2 never got marked down for potentially producing worn out muscles now did it?

Not that I know of, but don't be surprised if you see it. I do remember some critics complaining about TP for that reason.

I thought i posted in that old thread, guess i didnt.

anyway looking through those posts i noticed haziq's was really close to what is happening so far.

The Zelda series needs a few things changed to get a perfect or near perfect score:
- Add orchestrated music, no more MIDI.
- Change the gameplay, no more going from dungeon to dungeon -- change it up
- Wiimote specific items
- Make the gameplay less waggle and more precise
- Change the graphic's -- something a la Wind Waker = win
- Have a proper story. Perhaps a trilogy like the Metroid Prime series
- Add voice acting for NPC characters. Link doesnt have to talk if nintendo doesnt want him to, although the NPC's need voices. It helped Metroid Prime 3 A LOT. It will help the Zelda series as well
- Get rid of ganondorf as the main villian, or have multiple villians

Haziqonfire

orchastrated music = correct.

change the gameplay= probably correct, they said they were going to change up the formula a bit

wii mote specific items = correct

change the graphics (too something similar to winwaker!!) = correct

have a proper story = could be correct

voice acting for other characters other than link = most likely to happen

get rid of ganondorf as main villian = probably not correct.

hey haziq, do you work for nintendo :P?

ROFL. Story, CONTROLS, level design, stunning visuals, memorable boss fights, and badass villains. A heavier story is likely not going to happen. But as far as I know controls is usually the make or break aspect of Zelda. Then comes level design and puzzles.

Last year, I would have said it would be impossible. But I would have said the same thing about Mario. And then Galaxy 2 happened. Now anything is possible. It's looking to be a pretty fresh experience with the motion plus, but that doesn't automatically score a 10. But if they canmesh this into the puzzles while keeping a familiar Zelda theme, then it might work. But they can't stray too far from what make Zelda great. Voice acting might be nice, but it isn't necessary. Story also doesn't need to be any more involved than it has been since Ocarina. Gameplay is what's important and if they can make that feel new yet familiar at the same time, then we might have a 10. The motionplus looks promising so far, so it might do the job.

I don't care if it doesn't get a 10 but a 9 would satisfy me. I think for it to get one is it has to be completely different and other a different type of gameplay style but still feel like a Zelda game. It worked with Mario.

I know this is being a bit nitpicky, but im very upset at the fact that they are reusing the Link model from TP with the same bones and animations. Idk thats just me i guess.

I really do hope they make an upgrade on it though, at this point there's no excuse for it. I mean, even Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 has orchestrated music. Although, I guess I'm fine with a mixture. It doesn't have to be 100% orchestrated.

During the Nintendo Roundtable conference. Someone asked if it was going to be orchestrated considering that Mario Galaxy 2 was, and also pointed out that it would be a step backward if it wasnt. Miyamoto replied by saying "Well, I guess were going to have to."

True then Aunoma later said that he was not sure if Miyamoto was kidding or if he was serious, and that it has not happened yet, but it defintely could. I hope it does, but it won't ruin anything for me. I think the game will get a 9.5 but who knows. GS is pretty harsh! I love zelda so I don't care either way.

This new Zelda will raise the franchise. I can almost guarentee it. look what they have done with Galaxy! There is no way that it won't have orchestrated music, new and fresh gameplay, and much better controls, as we've seen in the demonstrations. This Zelda will amaze! I'd bet on it. Nintendo will not let this game be anything short of great...

If Skyward Sword were to get a 10, it needs to change the old Zelda formula. It's really old. Why does every boss needs to be in a dungeon of some sort? Why do I always have to use a specific item I got from said dungeon to beat him? This needs to change. It would be cooler if every boss have multiple ways to kill. Perhaps using items you get from the dungeon will make it easier since it's his weakness, but still they need to change it a little bit. It would also be better if there are bosses battles that take place outside of dungeons. I want bosses to come unexpectedly. Every time I enter a dungeon, I pretty much know I will end up fighting a boss, takes the element of surprise away. I want to take a nice stroll in Hyrule field relaxing and go.... OMG a Giant ENEMY SCORPION!! Also, please no load times. I want it to be a little more like world of warcraft. You can seamlessly walk from one room to next instead of watching that animation of Link opening the door and wait while the screen goes blank for a few seconds.

recipies for a 10 = stronger level/dungeon design, clever puzzles, inspired gameword/art-design which Zelda has already been doing well

TP was amazing even though it was not my favorite and GS did not even give it a 9 (granted that was not on their .5 scale). Critics are relatively accurate but not always right on. There are so many things wrong with rating of some of my favorite games, so I am not expecting a super high score, but it will rock either way. Generally I agree with IGN more then GS, but IGN DID give a 9.4 to Demon's Souls (PS3) which is so messed up IMO. and GOTY for it on GS? So again, unless it gets under an 8.5 I wouldnt worry, and I would bet my life on it getting at least that :P.

Jeff Gestman gave it an 8.9 instead of a 9.0 simply to piss off people... although I think the content of his review was accurate.

The zelda series is always intricate and intriguing to play, but after the E3 video where the creator of Zelda (I think) demonstrates the various weapons and combat style, I think it'll get a 10 anyway. Super Mario Galaxy 2 doesn't deserve it's 10 here, as it's too like Galaxy 1, which I don't think Skyward sword can be like Twilight Princess, as it's being made specifically for the Wii, whereas TP was made originally for the Gamecube, but slightly altered for Wii gameplay.

That's a good point about Galaxy 2, but you never know on here. Sometimes they complain about how games don't change from their predecessor, and then sometimes they praise a game for staying true to its roots, even if its a basically copied game.
