Looking at it now Nintendo has lots more options for making a good co-op Zeldathen when they made four swords. I think it would be a good chance to revive 2d Zelda while keeping the series fresh. Heres what I think they should have:

Hand drawn backrounds-no need to go all technical on us Zelda will look good plus its a good chance toput some style in the series, not to mention leaves room power-wise for other things.

Leave out the GBA connector cable- While it was good in theory it was difficult to get enough people together with GBAs and connector cables for a good experiance, seriously they should leave controls to classic or Gamecube controllers.

Includeonline while leaving the option to play together on one console: I understand leaving out online in NSMB:wii due to all that was happening on screen at one time but Zelda doesn't have nearly as much so it should be much easier to implement. Also its pretty difficult to get friends together for any substanial amount of time espicially the amount of time it takes to make a good amount of progress in Zelda

Include a singleplayer experiance: make so theres both that way smeone who perfers a singleplayer Zelda can play the same game. Keep the overworld the same just change up the dungeons. Lots of things to in the overworld that requires more then one person should give incentive to work together

I think if they did things right they could come up with a great experiance. If they could do it with Mario they sure as hell could do it with Zelda.

Also, I feel that Metroid need to remain in the First Person perspective and include co-op and online multiplayer with game modes that spacificly are made for Metroid.

Really, not saying your wrong but I can't see where any sort of competitive online mode would fit in Zelda where as co-op would work great (at least imo).

The problem about doing a huge co-op adventure with a friend would be the overworld adventuring. It would be great for dungeons (when you're both relatively close and working together), but when I'm out exploring I don't want to have to worry about what my friend is doing, I want to do my own thing all the time in an adventure title. Even with a single player option, your friendly AI would have to be very advanced and any flaws would be terribly detrimental to the gameplay, like the difference between playing RE5 single player or with a friend. They would have to make Zelda more action-based with much less exploring (again, sort of like the changes from RE4 to RE5), and if they make the next Zelda like Capcom made RE5, I would crap a brick.

Co-op would be pretty bad after reading what gamerforca said. Maybe multiplayer would be better for a zelda game.

No. The Four Swords was an okay game. Fun because it was four player. But now that Nintendo keeps making these new Zelda games where Link looks like a 5 year old, I don't want to see any more 5 year old links running around. The art style is too kiddy in my opinion. I know that Ocorina of Time had a kid link, but it was REALISTIC looking. I enjoyed it a lot. But now, Nintendo is coming out with too many kiddy Link looking games like, Windwaker, Four Swords, Minish Cap, Spirit Tracks. I really don't like any of these games. =/ I don't think they should give the four player another chance unless it would be realistic looking.

This. But I'm not too keen to the Co-Op Idea. 4 Swords was fun but that game forced co-op on you.

But something like Demon Souls would be nice.

No to handheld co-op, yes to Wii online co-op.

Not the whole game, mind you. It would just be cool if after you get to a certain point in the New Zelda Wii game, or after you have completed it, you're able to explore a new dungeon that requires say, four people to complete. The rewards could be different Link skins, new items to use the next time you play, stuff like that. Could be more than one dungeon...zomg, DLC dungeons!...nah.

I think they should do something like Resident Evil 0 where you have to switch back and forth, sort of like Link and Kefee from MM. They could do something with the Hylians from TP and you can pick which one to take where and even use Zelda as a character. Each can have a certain weapon they use and you can upgrade each helper. RPG like but same zelda format. Who knows, Link and the mysterious Master Sword looking girl maybe have a relationship like that. I guess we will see.

I agree with this exept for statement that NSMB doesnt count because it had no online. If Nintendo wants to keep their new titles fresh, then they will have to add more innovation but in order to do that without failing they can't take many chances.they will have to make something everybody (or almost everybody) will agree on or be happy with. I think it would work best if you had an optional co-op like in NSMB only in split screen it would work awsomely butpersonally i wouldnt care for online co-op as much as local co-op. Online isnt the wii's strong point and one of the main points nintendo stresses about the wii is that its a way to bring people together.

YES, DEFINITELY YES. Four Swords Adventures was one of my favorite gamecube games, but the problem was the gameboys and gameboy-gamecube cords, but now since everyone has a DS and they're wireless it would be sooooo much easier and better :D

Zelda doesn't need either, just because online play is the industry's cash cow these days, it doesn't mean every game that comes out needs it. Zelda doesn't need any kind of co-op, games built as single player games simply do not translate well to co-op, it feels forced i.e. RE5

I say no. Zelda should be single-player only. Four Swords was a cool idea, but it only played well if there were four people playing together. NSMBW on the other hand handles co-op well because it's very playable alone and manic in co-op. Zelda didn't nail that, and I think Nintendo should just focus on making it a 60-hour console adventure for lone rangers.

I vote "no" to any flavor of co-op. Yeah networking and internet gaming is great but I don't think cooperative play needs to be forced on every game that comes out. I might be stuck in the past here, I don't know. To me, Zelda is just a feel good 1 player game... I mean it'd be neat if they could add some sort of additional coop play but definitely not campaign..

Yeah, would love to see another Four Swords Zelda game with online plus the ability for everyone to use whatever control scheme they want, It would play out similar to what Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time did for the DS/Wii, I don't know why people wouldn't want to see a new co-op/competitive Zelda game especially when we're talking about a 2D styIe Zelda game not a 3D one(which would be another story), I mean it not like he saying from now on every Zelda game should be multiplayer styIe, plus I don't see how doing another 4 player zelda game would hurt if were still getting our beloved single player Zelda experience we all crave, you guys need to chill out a bit why not have both styIe. P.S. Be sure to buy FFCC: The Crystal Bearers on December 26:D.

Everlong: Yeah I been thanking about that idea as well, Nintendo should do aLegend ofZelda game whereyou can play asLink(uses Sword Skills), Zelda(uses Magic Spellsto attack, can alsouseHeal), and maybe Ganondorf(uses both Sword Skils & Magic Spells).

This is actually a pretty cool idea. I too would love a 2D Wiiware title with local co-op. The Wiiware title could add something to the retail game, which should be strictly single player. Maybe if the Wii detects the Wiiware save file, it could unlock something from the retail game, and maybe both stories could complement each other.

And, as a preemptive attack against the OMG MILKAGE NINTENDO IS DOOMED accusations, the retail game could include some kind of code to download the Wiiware game for free, like the Wii Speak device and the Wii Speak Channel.

Four Swords was a horrible mess. The Wii sadly is not capable of pulling of something decent online. And it would suck to have to have three friedns over to play zelda. It kills the sense of exploration having more than 1 [erson. Zelda was ment to be ONE person only. If they want to throw in some stupid minigame online thing like PH hey can go ahead but anything else would make me sick

Yea i agree, and this is one franchise that i feel would never need to rely on multiplayer or online since its the incredible single player experience that should be focused on during development instead of making tacked on modes that they could have spent time on in order to make the main game even better.

It has nothing to do with people being afraid of change, I am really looking foward to the changes Nintendo are making to the formula for Zelda Wii. However it as its core is a narrative driven, single player experience. To make co-op an option would require a substantial change in philosophy or it would feel forced. Take uh two games off the top of my head, GeoW which is designed around co-op, as a single player experience it would be very different. And then take something like RE5, they retained the elements of a single player experience but added a 2nd player and have you pull down two levers on either side of door and nonsense like that and it was extremely forced. I mean the co-op with Ashley in RE4 felt more organic than the co-op in RE5. I don't think co-op is worth the drastic change Zelda would have to go through to make it feel like more than a feature shoehorned in to have a new feature sticker on the box.

Definetly not most games are awesome because they are single player experiences like Super Mario Galaxy. If Zelda Wii was co - op it would be a wrong move.

I understand what you're saying completely... why throw something in if it effects the normal game? I agree

What I'm saying is, if they finished the game and added an online mode afterwards (if they have time). I'm not talking about an all out co-op mode, nor am I talking a normal online mode. I think it would be neat if it was kept simple. Maybe 1 or 2 (maybe more if they wanted to add DLC) dungeons that people could play through with a random boss each time. A battle areana where players could duel (think Resort's sword dueling) 1 on 1, and just a giant hub world where players could meet (there could be different lobby's) and just bs, trade/give rupees among other things. I really think it would be cool if it utilized your Mii avatar, and just dressed it up with Link attire. That way... you wouldn't have a million Link's running around. Those are just my ideas, but again.... that doesn't mean Zelda would be ruined with the addition of either co-op or online play. You know that Nintendo tries to innovate, so they could easily make it a different experience from other games.

My "affraid" comment wasn't directed towards anyone in particular, but you know people are affraid of change sometimes. " You ruined my Zelda" or "it's too different." People are affraid of change, especially if it's something that they already love. Wind Waker is a prime example.

Not a terrible idea, but I would rather Nintendo go wire to wire on the adventure, there are so many almost have it completely nailed ideas in Twilight Princess and I would rather them spend all the time getting those perfect than trying to be like every other game out there and come up with some online mode. And you know Nintendo wouldn't outsource the online mode to anyone so they would have to take time to do it. I don't want that. not at all.

I dont see why you guys are against it. its not like if they added co-op they would force you to use it. it would be optional. They could probably find a way for it to worksomehow.Split screen would probablywork pretty well. then they could have more options like friendly fire etc.

They might even be able to tie it into the story somehow so it doesnt feel wierd having clones running around.

Because everything takes resources even if its not a big part of the game, the addition of co-op would take away from the main game. Also the fact that there would be co-op regardless of whether it was optional or not would mean the game has to have something tailored to it, otherwise it would be senseless to have it in at all. And since Zelda is not a FPS, you cant just add more targets to balance out co-op. People seem to think that developers can just add things randomly, but the game has to be balanced for everything added, otherwise it comes out as a mess.

I've been wanting a a Four Swords for the Wii since it was first announced as the Revolution. If you managed to get all the hardware needed and managed to set aside some times with a few friends,Four Swords for the Gamecube was an absolute blast, whether it be tackling the campaign or playing versus mode. DS connectivity, better graphics, better online support, or rather, adding online support, and continuing what made Four Swords for GC so great would be excellent.

I agree somewhat but what if the game was build as a multiplayer game like Four Swords Adventure on the Gamecube than you wouldn't have to worry about that, also I fail to see why it would be bad as I stated before Nintendo would still be making more Single-Player Zelda game so their wouldn't be a reason to complain if they did another Four Swords style game, some of you guys are acting really naive if Nintendo did another Four Swords game they could market it like they did New Super Mario Bros. Wii , where friends & family members can get together to go on an epic adventure like no other, you can't tell me that wouldn't be a good thing especially for new gamers.

Thats my mistake, I thought you were saying add that to a single player Zelda. I would have no problem with Nintendo doing a seperate multiplayer focused Zelda. I just don't want them attempting to shoehorn multiplayer into the single player experience because it looks good in the features section, like so many other games do. If they did do it, DS connectivity would kind of be overkill, they could just stick that online, an adventure game unlike a platformer is fine online.

[QUOTE="Sepewrath"] Because everything takes resources even if its not a big part of the game, the addition of co-op would take away from the main game. Serbine

Because many of us want them to concentrate on making the next single player adventure surpass OoT's and ALttP's lofty standards. Besides, this thread is about the single player games. And I definitely do NOT want to see "new gamers" and "Zelda" in the same discussion. Zelda does not need to be made friendly for new gamers.

Sepewrath
Yeah, that what I was saying it should be seperate, also I agree they shouldn't add multiplayer into the single-player Zelda.

Well The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks say otherwise(whether you like it or not), those two games are really friendly(gameplay wise)to new gamers in general, you can also say that the 2D Zelda games are pretty friendly to new gamers(not as complex as the 3D ones)but it depend on how determine they are, also isn't that what Nintendo doing right now with Zelda Wii trying to create a game that surpasses Ocarina of Time, I'm just saying it crazy to say no it like saying you don't want Nintendo to make another console Zelda game with Wind Waker graphics for example(which would be cool to see again), it just absurd and show how arrogant some gamers are, like I say I'm not saying that Nintendo should quit doing single-player Zelda game, just that they could do some multiplayer Zelda games here and there, Sorry If I made anyone mad but Zelda: Four Swords was a really cool game, I'm sure Nintendo can expand on it a bit.

No......

They need to incorperate some online mode, but not co-op.

Zelda doesn't need either, just because online play is the industry's cash cow these days, it doesn't mean every game that comes out needs it. Zelda doesn't need any kind of co-op, games built as single player games simply do not translate well to co-op, it feels forced i.e. RE5

I could not agree more. Many Nintendo franchises would benefit from suitable online, but Zelda is not one of them.

A co-op Zelda would be great. Although, the single player should be the main focus.

Yes...the Four Swords games were brilliant. I'd like to see that type of gameplay return.

As long as the weapons and items are more permanent. It really sucked for them to be temporary. It made the game much more shallow.

no, it made the game even funnier in multiplayer. "gimme the fire rod!" "are you crazy? last time you set the whole map on fire because you pressed the wrong button!" "come on, PUH-LEEEEASE?" "no. BRUNO WON'T TOUCH THE FIRE ROD EVER AGAIN. who agrees with me?" *other friends raise hands* "aaaaaw..." yes, that did happen

Yes it did add frantic competitive multiplayer, but it was bad fit for a Zelda game.

really? would it be better if it was like the other games, where you can carry the items around yet you never use them after the dungeon you get? i think the "bunch of random items on this stage only" mechanic worked pretty well and kept it simple and effective.

Did I say they should be like Twilight Princess was with items? They could use the items multiple times in many dungeons.

It was not that many items. It is simple, but it takes away from the adventure elements. They can still have that frantic random competitive gameplay they just do not need to do it with the main items. Money, hearts, heartpieces, and many more items can be put into the mold, but the classic tools should stay.
