i think it's a stupid name. whenever i mantion anything to do with it, i refer to it as the new nintendo system. do i really care though? not really. does the name have anything to do with the systems performance? not at all.
they could have called it anything, and i still would have bought it as long as it provided the games i want.
I find it funny that with a name like the "Wii" that Nintendo didn't make the a perverted slogan like "touching is good" for the DS. The Nintendo DS can't be called a joke by its name but the slogan makes it that way...while the Wii is perverted by name alone and the slogan isn't perverted at all.
As for the name...I think it actually allows it to hit mainstream.
I still hate it. I don't think I'll ever like this name.
Still, could be worse. Could be the "Dolphin", right?Â

I think your thinking beyond that. Codename: Dolphin, was the Gamecube. Rememeber all the b.s. the Wii got from leaving its codenamed stage from, Revolution. Same with other past systems, Direct-X Box - XBOX, Ultra 64 - Nintendo 64, etc etc etc....

The N64's codename was Project Reality. Ultra 64 was going to be the final name in the US but it was changed later on to match the name of the system in Japan.
As for the name I never had a problem with i. It's also no question that it's definitely caught on with most people.
the name has cought on to me . but the only problem is when i talk to some of my friends and i tell them that i got the wii they think i am talking about weed. thats the only problem with it.:D
I think it works well.
Everyone knows the name of it. Even my parents lol.

I agree, it's an easy name and everyone can remember it.Â

That's nothing. You should have seen the reaction of my teacher when she heard me talking about "playing with my Wii" Hilarious.
I like the name too! It rocks...
However, I got my Wii from Canada on the day it was realesed and a week after I went to visit some relatives in the Middle East.
Each time I tell some of my friends that I'm playing with my Wii... they take it... as though I'm playing with something "else".
Luckily, everyone that knows me well enough now knows what a Wii is lol...Â
what do you mean caught on? caught on as in everyone knows what someones talking about when they say wii? then yes. caught on as in its a cool name? no.Â
personally i think its a silly name and that revolution would've been cooler, but its still a great system
I don't think it would have caught as much attention with an other name. It's a one of a kind name. Almost everybody knows what a Wii is or at least heard about it. One of the big reasons is its name.i think it's a stupid name. whenever i mantion anything to do with it, i refer to it as the new nintendo system. do i really care though? not really. does the name have anything to do with the systems performance? not at all.

The name is really great. people remember it and that is part of what nintendo was aiming for. I've showed Wii to a lot of relatives and they all really like it and everytime they come and visit they say, "hey let's plat that Wii". It is also great that nintendo dares to be different.Â
