symbolically (If thats a word) it has, though I feel a bit silly mentioning it still, maybe i should make up my own name for it, but I'll probably seem a bit silly-er:?

Everyone knows what a Wii is. I'm glad Nintendo decided to use Wii because anyone caught making a joke about it will be deemed childish and immature right off the bat.

i think it's a stupid name. whenever i mantion anything to do with it, i refer to it as the new nintendo system. do i really care though? not really. does the name have anything to do with the systems performance? not at all.

they could have called it anything, and i still would have bought it as long as it provided the games i want.

I find it funny that with a name like the "Wii" that Nintendo didn't make the a perverted slogan like "touching is good" for the DS. The Nintendo DS can't be called a joke by its name but the slogan makes it that way...while the Wii is perverted by name alone and the slogan isn't perverted at all.

As for the name...I think it actually allows it to hit mainstream.

i think they have done a good job with it. They're commercials aren't overly hokey with the usage of it, and for some reason people like to say Wiiiii.

I still hate it. I don't think I'll ever like this name.

Still, could be worse. Could be the "Dolphin", right?

I think your thinking beyond that. Codename: Dolphin, was the Gamecube. Rememeber all the b.s. the Wii got from leaving its codenamed stage from, Revolution. Same with other past systems, Direct-X Box - XBOX, Ultra 64 - Nintendo 64, etc etc etc....

Does give the machine a childish vibe. And the jokes are endless and obvious. Can I come over and play with your Wii? Well Wii need better games, wii need more hardcore games, wii need games that actually use the controllers to their full advantage.

The N64's codename was Project Reality. Ultra 64 was going to be the final name in the US but it was changed later on to match the name of the system in Japan.

As for the name I never had a problem with i. It's also no question that it's definitely caught on with most people.

revolution was a nice name, and Wii is a wierd word. If it was anything but a gaming mashing it wouldent work, but it does :) cause in the gaming-industry you can nearly call things anything, as long as its not offending anybody

To avoid uncomfortable situations and immature comments, I never refer to it as "My Wii."  That's a given.  I call it my nintendo, my console, or "the Wii," just never "my Wii."  Dunno, just a suggestion.

Yeah, i like the name now. It was just a departure from the strong-sounding Revolution that it came as a huge shock last April.

The name has most definitely caught on.  Mention the Wii and almost everyone knows what you're talking about.  Only the hardcore gamers who even remember it being called the Revolution care at all.

I like the name too! It rocks...

However, I got my Wii from Canada on the day it was realesed and a week after I went to visit some relatives in the Middle East.

Each time I tell some of my friends that I'm playing with my Wii... they take it... as though I'm playing with something "else".

Luckily, everyone that knows me well enough now knows what a Wii is lol...

what do you mean caught on?  caught on as in everyone knows what someones talking about when they say wii?  then yes.  caught on as in its a cool name?  no.

personally i think its a silly name and that revolution would've been cooler, but its still a great system

I don't think it would have caught as much attention with an other name. It's a one of a kind name. Almost everybody knows what a Wii is or at least heard about it. One of the big reasons is its name.

Revolution would have been a really good name I think. It really would have meshed with their advertising campaign because it describes the product perfectly..Whereas with owning a Wii - what the hell is a Wii?! Revolution sounds powerful and exciting, Wii sounds like a noise a baby makes when it gets excited.

Reguardless of whether or not you think it's silly, you can't deny that it has caught on. It suits nintendo anyway.

The name is really great. people remember it and that is part of what nintendo was aiming for. I've showed Wii to a lot of relatives and they all really like it and everytime they come and visit they say, "hey let's plat that Wii". It is also great that nintendo dares to be different.

I totally think the name has caught on. Revolution would have been a cool name at first. but really it would have sounded generic ("Oooohhh, Revolution, wouldn't have thought of that." and you know that all the non-sheep would have been ridiculing the boldness of the name if it ever failed to deliver. I first thought that a name like Wii was really childish and I was afraid that the Sony boys would have their heyday making wang jokes about the system but its really developed into a simple and memorable name with community connotations that fit nicely.   Go Wii!!!!
