I have heard people say that it is as powerful as a 360 (I dont think it's that good) but if heard people say its almost as good as a PS2(I know it's better then that). So anyone here know how powerful the graphics are?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Bottom line is that they are better at some things than the Wii is, such as lighting and other effects, but the poly count is probably a bit lower. I mean you can judge it for yourself, as these are probably the best graphics the system has seen thus far, and it looks better than RE4.

I was actually more impressed by this video than I expected to be.
I'd say they're a little worse than GC's graphics. From what I've seen. People said the GBA to have PS1 graphics. Not true. People said the DS to have N64 graphics. Not true either. People say 3DS to have GC/Wii graphics. That's the closest one so far..
The Mercenaries look really really good graphically, however. Haven't seen anything in that game that makes it look less than GC quality (from recorded vids), but I believe that game only containing fairly small maps might have something to do with that.
It is slightly more powerful than the Wii.Rocky32189
What are you talking about? Its more like half-way between N64 and GC.
actual power wise? it's between the ps2 and gamecube.
but graphically, however, it's around xbox/wii quality. that's only because of the lower resolution screens.

the ds is around the ps1 level. it's pretty close in fact.
I'd like to point out that there is a big difference in the console's "power" and the graphics it can produce. The 3DS has less "power" than the Wii but Resi: Revelations looks on par with the best that the Wii has produced in four years and the 3DS isn't even out yet.
Gamecube (remember the Gamecube was the most powerful system when it was out... and look at brawl)LetsPlayer
the xbox was a bit more powerful. It was pretty close though.
2 cores at 266mhz 64mbs ram and 133mhz gpu with 4 mbs ram . in some ways its better then gc but one holds 3ds back most is its awful oly count i think it can only do like 10 million . cube has 48 mbs ram and ` 448mhz cpu but its gpu can push more polys then 3ds can .

I've heard, more than anything, that it has capabilities beyond the NGC, and it's about on par with the Wii.
Maybe I made a bit of an understatement, its around the level of gamecube, but definately not even close to Wii. Screenshots exagerate, watch some gameplay videos.

Eh, that's only what I've been told anyway. The only thing I know for certain is that it's a lot better than the DS.

While polygon counts are good for bragging rights, they also have the least impact on visual fidelity. I think texturing and especially shaders are most important in that respect.

Here are some screenshots of games before launch
Leaky_Taps_Man
Which two games are these? They look purty.
Time Travelers by Jiro Ishii (of 428 fame) and Level 5 is the first screenshot The second is a port of a PS2 RPG by the name of Tales of the Abyss. But can't the 3DS do normal maps, which would negate the lower poly counts.2 cores at 266mhz 64mbs ram and 133mhz gpu with 4 mbs ram . in some ways its better then gc but one holds 3ds back most is its awful oly count i think it can only do like 10 million . cube has 48 mbs ram and ` 448mhz cpu but its gpu can push more polys then 3ds can .

^^^ You two posters above me are seriously in denial. In what world is the PSP graphically better than the 3DS. Even after all the pictures on the first page, you still say such things. I dont think people like you will ever reason with the truth. Considering most of these games are 1st gen releases, 3DS games already look better than the entire game library of the PSP.
And here's RE:Revelations, all in game.
Next time do some research. You'd save yourself the embarrassment.
lol@ comparing gameplay footage to screen shot we have been given. As for embarrassment, its kinda embarrassing that the ngp is reaching console levels and the 3ds barley passed the original psp.Nick3306
Despite irrefutable proof to the contrary mere posts above, one universal rule has remained constant:
Haters Gonna Hate.
lol@ comparing gameplay footage to screen shot we have been given. That's embarrassing, for it to be at a lower "level" and it too still dominate everything at a higher "level".

The big difference between Nintendo and Sony as console developers is that Nintendo's consoles are designed in large part by the people who are actually going to make games for it, which is why Nintendo's systems always have great games despite being "underpowered", because they are always built with the end goal in mind which is to make a game system. Sony, on the other hand, has a team of engineers put as much horsepower under the hood as they can manage and then hope that game designers will eventually be able to do something interesting with it, which if the PSP and PS3 are any indication never really happens.
That and the NGP is most likely going to retail in the $399 range, so those "console quality graphics in a handheld" won't be cheap, meaning slower adoption by consumers meaning less incentive for developers to release games for it. Then you consider the fact that Nintendo once again has the more interesting system (glasses-free 3D, StreetPass/SpotPass, motion sensors, dual screens, etc.) and I think we're looking at another round of history repeating itself.

Exactly right my friend. Remember when the ds and psp first came out. People was saying psp has ps2 graphics while ds has n64 with a crappy touch screen. The psp will smash the ds because of higher quality games, graphics and so on. Well Nintendo proved everyone wrong by making high quality games for the ds with great touch screen features. while the psp struggled near enough all its lifespan. Untill the very end it seems a couple of decent titles was released for it from Sony. While the ds just went on and had so many great games we all still remember today. This is exactly the same in the 3ds and psp2's case. People now saying psp2 has ps3 graphics and 3ds has gc/wii graphics. Face it everyone the 3ds is going to win and even after seeing sonys psp2 in action. (videos). I have not changed my mind at all.lol@ comparing gameplay footage to screen shot we have been given. I'm sorry that you hate Nintendo, but the proof is out there for anyone to see. There are game-play videos, Hands-on demo's, and tons of screenshots. Furthermore, It took like 5-6 years for the PSP the get visuals like peace walker and ghosts of sparta, and MGS on the 3DS outdoes both with a 1st gen release title...There is absolutely nothing you can say to validate your shallow and ignorant argument.
I think that's where the DS is in my opinion.[QUOTE="Dusty8"][QUOTE="ColdP1zza"]

How is it inaccurate? So one guy says "here look the 3ds is a little better than the psp" and the next guy say "No thats an invalid point"Nick3306
