Hey all,

I just want to outright apologize if this post seems long to some people.

So I got Resident evil 4 recently. I never beat it the two times I've played it cause I got bored of it but than I played Resident evil 5 and wanted to go back to 4. So I got 4 and I can safely say I can now appreciate the game and do have intentions of beating it.

I got a few questions though.

1) Resident evil 4 was the first resident evil I've ever played. The first time I played it was 2 years ago. People kept saying all these good things about it so I bought it on PS2 and I got bored of it and sold it. Than I got my Wii and got RE4 and I liked it more with the wiimote controls. I got further than my PS2 version but than got bored but now I'm playing it again and I love it. Graphics, to me, are still good. Love the atmosphere. I wish the gameplay had some tweaking but I like it now.

I really like the third person persective and I really wish RE 1-3 was made like this but oh well.

My question is seeing that RE4 is the first RE game I played and seeing as how resident evil archives just came out. Would you guy recommend I play resident evil archvies? I've beaten RE5 and currently beating RE4.

2) Seeing as how RE4 was a GC port, how come we haven't seen another RE game on the wii with that 3rd person perspective? We know the Wii could handle more than what RE4 has to offer. I personally tihnk it would look great. No offense to anyone here but I'm not a fan of on-rails games so the RE on-reails game doesn't interest me.

3) Assuming I buy Resident evil archives, what's the difference between the wii version and the GC version?

Thanks for you answers all!

The GC version comes in a black plastic case with "GameCube" priinted across the top of the cover sleeve. The Wii version, on the other hand, comes in a white plastic case. I think it also has "Wii" printed on the upper right hand corner of the sleeve. The biggest difference, however, is that the Wii version comes on a standard DVD-sized disc, whereas the media used for the GC version is quite small.

1- it's a matter of liking adventure games ('cause survival horror is an adventure game). the first RE played really different than RE4 and 5. 2- the only not-on-rails RE we had so far wouldnt work on the wii unless the graphics were drastically reduced, requiring possibly a new engine, and that would cost a lot. so what we might see (i doubt, but it's a possibility) is a wii-exclusive RE... that at some point will be ported to the other consoles. 3- none at all. the shape of the control is different (DUH!), but there's no motion/pointer, as far as i know.

If you want the best of the resident evil series then get hold of RE Archives, RE4 Wii edition, RE5, Code Veronica, RE2. I'm kinda upset that RE5 has no real scare factor as this is what the series was and should still be about, but I rank RE4 Wii edition as a fantastic game even if it isn't scary. I agree that Wii could do with more RE games like this, Code Veronica and RE2 are crying out for remakes with the over the shoulder gameplay of RE4 and RE5. It will happen , but maybe Capcom are waiting for the next generation to make them as realistic as possible , maybe they will be first person, who knows.

You didn't mention the Wii controls, The choices are as follows: play the game with the nunchuk plugged in to the Wii remote, unplug the nunchuk and turn the Wii remote on its side, or dig out either a Classic Controller or an original GameCube controller and play it that way. Other than that, it's exactly the same in every sense as the GameCube version, it still has no wide screen support. You could get the gamecube version cheaper, but I would rather have this to save messing around with memory cards and gamecube controllers.

Yeah, all the RE games play way differently than 4 and 5. 4 is the first game out of the series they made it more into an action oriented game. And the camera is behind your shoulder unlike the earlier games where the camera is set. So before you buy you might want to read the reviews or rent the game. Have fun!

Wouldn't really want Code Veronica to have RE4 style controls IMO.

But I bet it would look damn nice with a upgraded engine and over the shoulder point of view, just slap Dead Space controls on it and we're good to go.

Yeh the graphics would be nice, but the gameplay would suffer.

I actually like RE4 more than RE5 because at least there is an air of tension and at least Ashley stayed the hell out of my way. Archives is one of the biggest ripoffs to ever come out of Capcom and I guarantee it will sell better than games like De Blob, No More Heroes and Madworld.

I liked RE4 better too. Incredible how theyruined some of the good RE4things when creating RE5!

Really hope that DeBlob, NMH and Madworld get better numbers on the long term

But the ability to play with Wii-specific controllers doesn't add anything to the game. You're playing the same game the exact same way, so it's pointless to mention it.

Granted, this is a fantastic game, and if you don't own the GameCube version, you might as well get this one just for the sake of consistency (and, like you said, the convenience of not having to change controllers or save methods). But for anyone who still plays GameCube games on their Wii . . . this is just a sad, simple port.

I got the box set with 0, 1, and 4. I really liked 4 but didn't really like 1. I really disliked that you could only make a limited number of saves and for a game like this, I would prefer to do a lot of saving. Explore a bit, save, go somewhere else and explore, save, etc.

No. The older RE have some pretty awful controls and fixed point of views. Maybe if you don't mind those things, you might enjoy them. I feel only RE fans could enjoy the older games as they are clumsier and don't have RE4 or 5's production values or action.

I never really like the over the shoulder camera that RE4 and RE5 uses. I always loved the old school Resident Evils :D.

They were talking about Resident Evil. Not Resident Evil 4. Resident Evil Archives is just a port of the GC remake from about 7 years ago. It's is exactly the same game, with just remapped controls. Resident Evil is drastically different from RE4. There are fixed camera angles, the controls are in the perspective of the character, and not your viewpoint, so it leads to awkward control, and it doesn't have as much action. On the other side, it more tense, scary, and just overall more moody. You might like it, you might not. Watch some gameplay videos and see if it is something you might enjoy.

Yeah, not being able to see the damn zombies who are quite literally in front of but are off camera is much better.
