So I played Metroid Prime 1, but not 2....

Do you think I'll be missing anything if I just skip ahead and purchase part 3 when it releases, or should I just pick up Echoes first? I really wasn't even too involved with the story in part 1 though too. Anyone else just purchasing part 3 even though you skipped maybe the first or second or even both?

Well, that and also you'll see a new standard set in puzzle and boss quality.

I've never played a Metroid game (let alone Metroid Prime) so I plan on just reading the Wikipedia pages on the first 2 games to bring me up to speed. Read the booklet that comes packaged with the game too! I do that whenever I start in the middle of a franchise I've never played before.

As far as I've seen the story for each Metroid game seems to be pretty well self contained. Obviously there is a larger story that encompasses the whole Metroid universe, but as far as I've seen each game tells you everything you really need to know.

Ignore 2... But do yourself a favour and play the first - it's very, very good.

Metroid Prime is a masterpiece and I saw it at EB used for 14.99 (and I live in Canada), so I would suggest picking it up. However, the second kind of annoyed me with all the back and forth dimension jumping, it was more distracting than engrossing for me. It also made the world kind of uninteresting, at least for me.

So yeah, the first explains everything so I'd suggest getting that one, but I wouldn't worry too much about Echoes.

Edit: And I just realised that you already had the first one.

I suggest picking it up. It is still a solid Prime experience. I don't understand why you people are putting this game down. The Sanctuary Temple is the sweetest location you can find in a Metroid game and they bring back the screw attack.

I kinda agree about Echos, the light / dark world did get rather old. I mean, backtracking in metroid is bad enough, but you have to shift dimensions and take some weird altered path to get to where you need to go and blah blah blah blah.

Despite that, its still a good game. And as I was thinking about it, some of the moments I fondly look back on from the Prime series do come from Echos, although I still think Prime 1 is better.

Heres hoping Corruption ends it right.

I would still recommend Prime 2.While not quite as good as the first Prime and has too much backtracking,it still is a superb title. It's much harder, and makes you use your head a lot more than Prime 1 did with more elaborate puzzle and more use of certain abilities, like the Morph Ball.

Echoes is a brilliant game, I recommend you don't skip it. The dark/light world mechanic does get a bit tiresome, but the improved power-ups, puzzles and bosses more than make up for it IMO.

I actually liked Prime 2 better than the first one because it was more challenging. You should definitely play it, has some great boss battles like the one against Quadraxis.

The Dark World was awesome, and you Prime-1ers whine too much about backtracking. Play Super Metroid and talk to me again about backtracking. After all, that's the game you fanboys with your thumbs up your asses seem to think is the best one anyway.

To all you people who haven't played Echoes yet, don't be fooled by these fools!

Metroid Prime 2 features the best:

Art design

Map system (you're thinking: "isn't it identical to Prime 1?" the answer is no, it isn't, the maps are more detailed, you can see environmental features of certain rooms in the map.

Bosses

and Puzzles

Its game world may not be as finely crafted as Prime 1's but it beats out Prime 1 in almost every other way.

You can skip Echoes and still follow Corruption. There will be some over arching story elements but you should be able to get past that.

That being said I think it would be plain STUPID not to play Echoes as it was almost as fabulous as the first! I know a lot of people here didn't like it as much...that just baffles me. The only conclusion I can draw is that it was just too long difficult for some to actually "enjoy". I friggin' loved it. No reason to miss it. Even if you play it after Corruption that's fine. Don't be a fool. PLAY IT!!! :D
