I love my Wii, and I don't own either of the other two, but it's clear to see that the Wii needs to do a little catching up with it's online features. Does anybody know what Nintendo's plans are likely to be? When are we going to get a "WiiLive", with "WiiCommunity", "WiiArcade" etc.?SonicBooom
I don't think we are going to get a "WiiArcade" or "WiiCommunity" ever. Especially the "WiiCommunity" Nintendo does not like people to meet other people online and be able to communicate. Or atleast thats the way it is with the DS. Friend codes are the proof.Â
Like in Metroid Prime Hunters for the DS, you could only use the Voice with other people if you had their friend code... Or in AC:WW you could not do anything online with out someones friend code...
I hope its not this way with the Wii, but it looks like it will be that way because the Wii already uses the "Wii Number" Â
MS really hit the online thing on the head with Xbox Live, right now nintendo wifi connect does even come close to being close.. it'd be nice to have some kind of online community,
i understand nintendo has a responsibility to make it safe for kids, and its great that they take it seriously, but at the same time they can't treat grown ups like children..
i read somewhere on these forums that nintendo are considering only using the friend code thing for games with lower age ratings, and not bothering with games with higher age ratings.. i can still see problems with that, but its at least better that being babied with every game you play
The Friends Code and the equivelent for the Wii are really annoying. I don't like having to add people, who are not even "friends", who are hardly ever online. I have one "Wii friend" added so far, and that's nothing exciting. It's not a good system for online play.SonicBooom
Maybe it will not be worth for you but Super Mario Strikers on Wii doesn't need a friend code to play online. If you play in North America, you can play against people in North America without friend codes. Friend code are only made if you want to play against someone you know specially. But if you want to play against people in Europe or in Japan, you'll have to add their friend code because the online gaming is not region free.
That thing was announced last month.

Online gaming was there before XBL and its equal PC gaming. All MIcrosoft made is they took online gaming on PC and put it on a console.

Yeah, all they did was take the PC formula and improved upon it...Not that hard and I don't see why Nintendo or Sony can't do that....ESPECIALLY AFTER WAITING 6 MONTHS FOR ONLINE...THERE BETTER BE SOMETHING THAT JUSTIFIED THAT!!!![QUOTE="chris3116"][QUOTE="Bandit_Haze"]MS really hit the online thing on the head with Xbox Live, right now nintendo wifi connect does even come close to being close.. it'd be nice to have some kind of online community,

There already is a WiiArcade. It's called the Wii Shop Virtual Console.

its not the same as pc online, with pc online there is no unified service, your friends in one game are different from friends in another game.. unless you're counting things like xfire.. and on that note, i think live anywhere is gonna be awsome
but even still, i'd rather pay for a good service than have a crap one free.. nintendo just need to take a few pointers, and they'd be fine... and y'know lose the whole friend code thing, or at least improve to just one friend code per person

Agreed... I wish Friend codes were banished from this earth...
Well, I think we get the point that Friend Codes are abominations of all things sane, and we can hope that Nintendo will actually give us a choice to make a gamertag that we can change at will WITHOUT HAVING TO WASTE 10 BUCKS!

Agreed...Â
And if Nintendo REALLY wants to target the older group of non-video gamers then they should try making their online work for the OLDER group. That would take less friend codes and more online games.Â

Yes, but if Nintendo wanted to have good online then they should start with killing the Friend Codes and worry about things like gamertags later...Â
I never heard of Ninetendo so, I can't help u. Sry...Kenshin112345
The Nintendo Wii's online play with kick off in America with Pokemon Battle Revolution on June 25th. That and Battalion Wars 2 will be the first online capable games to be releases. I will probably get Battalion Wars 2 because i loved the first one for the Gamecube and online for #2 is a big plus! But what i am really looking forward to is Guitar Hero 3 coming out at the end of 2007. It will feature online co-op and competitive modes. Also you will be able to go online and download new songs to add to your offline track list. Can't Wait!!!
Nintendo is a family based company. They are about linking everyone together. Most of 'everyone' is not a hardcore gamer. That being the case, Nintendo's online capabilities won't be anything near the likes of XBOX. I see that as a good thing though. I know enough people around the country/world to have their friend codes and play with people I actually know. Nintendo isn't about to let 12 year olds play against some 35 year old man living in his mother's basement.
o_o And it will be free.
But you never know what Nintendo may decide to do. Maybe they will end up making friend codes a parental control. ... Eh. It'll be fine for NINTENDO.
